I purchased this to be used at work, I wanted an iPod docking station with an AM/FM radio. I had a JBL docking station but it did not have an AM/FM radio, that is why I started looking for a new one. I went to a local store to test out the docking stations that they had in stock, to see which one would best suit my needs and found this Sony to be the best of the bunch and at a reasonable price.
It had the AM/FM radio that I wanted and was of course an iPod docking station, it also had alarm clock function. I didn't need the alarm clock but it was nice to be able to glance at it to see what time it was. The unit seemed to be solidly constructed and looked nice. The unit was easy to use and the functionality was pretty intuitive. The FM radio reception was good but the AM reception was horrible, couldn't get anything that wasn't mostly static. It came with a remote that allowed you to do many functions, all of which there were buttons on top of the unit to do the same thing. The display was good and had several (5-6) different brigthness settings.
I was pretty happy with the unit with the exception of the sound, it was horrible. The music sounded really tinny and that was with the MEGAXpand and MEGAbass functions turned on. This did not have the full sound that I was accustomed to with my JBL docking station. I am sort of an audiophile and couldn't live with the horrible sound of the Sony, so I returned the unit and bought the JBL On Time 400iHD from Amazon. I tried to save a little money by going with the Sony but that was a major mistake. Don't get me wrong, the JBL has some issues too (most notably the remote control), but for me the most important thing was the sound and the JBL was hands-down the better unit for sound.
If you are looking for a relatively cheap iPod docking station, then you could do worse than the Sony(trust me I tested a lot of units and there are much worse ones out there). But if the sound of the music is important to you, spend the extra money and go with the JBL, you won't be dissapointed.

Everything is great with the clock/radio but the LCD lights up the whole bedroom at night.

Compared to other docks in the same price range, this offers less than average sound.

Bought because it was not as deep as most ipod clocks. Sound quality is fine and it works perfectly with iPhone 3G. Only problem is that the screen is way too bright. Even in the dimmest mode it lights up half the room. My wife has taken to covering the screen with the remote at night, and that works reasonably well but makes it tough to check the time at night.

I really like this system. It is small, easy to use, the sound is good, and the price is right ($87). My husband likes to listen to the radio, and I like the iPod, so it's a good marriage. For the price, it delivers great sound. Good cost/benefit ratio.
