Pros:
- Analog volume control lets you adjust volume on the speakers directly.
- For speakers of this size and price, they can get very loud.
- DC input with included USB cable lets you power the device from a laptop, no batteries required.
- Pretty decent quality.
- Cable is long enough to accomodate any device.
Cons:
- Not the best quality--but if you want better quality, you'll need to look at a much more expensive unit.
- Unfolding them involves taking the "nest" plate off the bottom. If you want to rest your iPod in them, you have to flip it and put it back on again.
- Runs on 4 AAA batteries, a bit much for portable speakers.
- "Nest" accomodates only smallish MP3 players. Not useful for my eBook reader.
Overall:
- I've tried many, many low-end portable speaker systems, and the only other good one I've found is the Coby Travel Speaker System. That one has slightly better sound quality, but no volume control. If your MP3 player puts out a lot of sound without external amplification and fits in the Coby, that's an excellent choice, but if you need a bigger boost or have a larger player or a laptop, go with these.

I was skeptical about at these speakers. For two months i was eyeing this item. When my little battery operated speaker is dying, i had to get a better or just a decent speaker. So heck, i got this item. I turned the volume up and it was booming, what a speaker, little ones can boom so much. For the price and the quality of the sound, although it cannot compete with my outdated bose speakers from the 90's, still it kicks the bass like there is no tommorow.

This thing is great. Its loud for its size and has good sound quality. Batteries have lasted at least 16 hours so far and i like to blast my music. The only down side is it doesnt come with an A/C adapter but if you have the ipod one with the removable cord you can use the included USB cable and that plug and your all set.

OK, first for all the folks complaining that this unit isn't audiophile quality: DUH! What do you expect for the price?! Or the speaker size? Of course you're not going to get anything approaching serious audio quality or a real bottom end from anything this small!
I got this from Vortex Cable for under eight bucks, including shipping, and have used it nearly non-stop since it arrived yesterday. They shipped it promptly, in a bubble-pack envelope, and it arrived in fine shape. It's perfect with my Zune on the desk, or where I really wanted it - out in the garden. It's extremely directional, which is a drawback for outdoor use, but you can't beat this price with a stick. Even if it only lasts for the rest of the growing season I'll have gotten my money's-worth. And right now you can get them for about five bucks including shipping from Bargain Cell - I'm buying three more as gifts today because you just can't go wrong at that price.
Highly recommended as a knock-around, extremely portable way to listen to your Zune (or iPod) if, like me, you hate headphones/ear buds. If it falls apart or otherwise disappoints me in the next few weeks I'll be back with another review, but for now I give it five stars *at the price of $10 or less* because I certainly didn't expect even this much for that price.

I bought these for work, to listen to my ipod. The sound quality is great, but I had to replace the batteries every week. I ended up throwing them away because at one point the batteries leaked and it was a mess. I do not recommend these only because of the use of batteries. Other than that, they're ok speakers.
