Although the packaging and item itself claim to be designed by Apple, it is definitely a 3rd party replica -- I knew this purchasing and was actually presently surprised. Beside the cord being slightly off-white vs. the original Apple version, this is a great copy of the original. No problems charging or syncing my iPhone 3G whatsoever. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to pay $19.99 for a true Apple accessory. I like Apple, but love saving money more.

This is a nice connector, a great price....but it is not as it appears in the photograph, nor is it a genuine Apple product, as other reviewers note; would rate it higher were it not for that misrepresentation of the provenance/manufacture of the cable.

Pros: The product does allow the iPhone 3G to be charged, but the plug gets pretty warm compared to using the original cable.
Cons: The product does NOT allow you to sync the iPhone, which makes this product quite useless.
Cons: It also looks very much like an imitation product. Guess you gotta pay the full $17 to enjoy the benefits of a real product.

I didn't start out a tightwad. I already bought a spare cable for $20 at the Apple store. Someone ripped it off from my desk at work. LAME. I am not made of money so I had to find a less expensive replacement. Enter: Amazon!
The quasi Apple-like packaging with a prominent 'Made in China' sticker product arrived in the mail a few days ago. Fast shipping? Absolutely. Safe wrapping too: they used bubble wrap and taped it up carefully so no shipping damage.
It works with my iPhone 3G for charging and syncing which is what I care about. If you can overlook the faux packaging you can get yourself a nice cable for a lot less $.

Some reviewers have given low marks saying it is not an Apple product. I don't know if it is or not, but after buying 4 of these I do know that they work -- both for charging and data transfer. And they are cheap.
