 "Excellent product." 2009-10-20

Excellent product, just be sure you find out how it should be charged. Directions said to flip switch to on while charging, but this kept freezing up my computer and would not charge. Then I read a review where someone had the same problem and talked to Tekkeon and they said the directions are wrong. The new units must be left in the off position while charging. I did this and everything worked fine. I am able to get approximately 10 hours of run time on my GPS unit with this battery and then 2 more hours since the GPS battery has been charged. This is while the unit is on continually and screen is on brightest display. My GPS has a internal battery that only gets 2 hours on these settings. This is the best I have found for a reasonable price and super small battery pack. I highly recommend this product.

"Never leave home without it" 2009-09-30

I got this to use with my iPhone. As great as the iPhone 3G is, all those great functions pull down battery life to less than a day if you use more than just the phone and ipod features. This unit is light and small and while it does take several hours to bring it to a full charge it provides my iPhone two full charges and often a little more.

If you need some back up power this is a great little unit. The one thing that I think they could improve is the switch. It is not real clear what positions are on or off and if you hurry you just might leave it on when you don't want to. This would not be a problem except that it has what I consider a pretty useless LED flashlight function and this it what can get left on by mistake.

Overall it does a great job at what it is supposed to do and I like that it connects to the phone by a cable and not directly to the phone like many of these units. That allows you to quickly disconnect if you need to take a call or use another feature and not have the added bulk of an attached battery to deal with.

 "Do You Feel Lucky?" 2009-09-16
By approach
1. Per an email from Tekkeon, the printed charging instructions are wrong: you must have the unit switched OFF to charge it, not ON. Oops.

2. Per the same email, you must hook the TekCharge MP1800 up to a "1 amp" USB charger. Neither my Apple iPhone charger or MusicPower Duet cut the mustard (the USB spec requires only 0.5 amps, not 1).

3. I plugged the TekCharge MP1800 into my MacBook Pro (unibody early 2009) to see if it would charge there. While plugged in, I switched the MP1800 to its "LIGHT" setting (no reason; just fiddling around). My MacBook Pro immediately REBOOTED. Tried it again; same thing. Weird, and scary. MacBook Pro seems OK, but the MP1800 is doing something SERIOUSLY wrong here. You might argue "don't switch the MP1800 to LIGHT". Well, of course, but regardless, the behavior is unacceptable. Name another USB device that'll rebook your computer. Riiiiight....

 "Light Won't Turn GREEN!" 2009-09-07
By Jerry J (Boise, ID USA)
I ordered two (2) of these MP1800 TekCharge models. I followed the instructions, which say to turn the TekCharge power switch to the ON position when charging. This should have resulted in GREEN colored lights on both units. Both lights remained ORANGE. I contacted TekCharge tech support and I was advised that -- for newer models -- the instructions have CHANGED. Now -- with newer units -- one must turn the TekCharge power switch OFF during charging. I did that. OK... one (1) of the units charged up and its light shines GREEN. Good. However, the second unit's light still refuses to turn GREEN. It's stuck on ORANGE. No matter which position the power switch is in. This is lame. Will probably return this second unit for a refund if I can't get its light to turn GREEN. HASSLE.

"Two Defective Units in a Row" 2009-09-04
By K. Timmerman (Chicago, IL)
After researching many options online, I ordered this battery (along with a Duracell lithium ion unit) for my iPhone. The first unit would not charge, even after 48 hrs with two different chargers and two different cables (to make sure they weren't the problem). Amazon quickly sent a replacement, but it has the same problem. After two duds in a row, I'm giving up and will try something else. (The Duracell unit works fine, but it is admittedly a smaller capacity battery.) I'm disappointed, because I like the size and capacity of this battery. Sorry to have to give it one star, but.......
