"San Disk Sansa clip" 2010-01-30
By Rodman D. Starke
After much trouble-three sessions of help both with san Disk and Apple- and sending the product baack twoce, they tell me the sansa clip is not compatable with the Mac and that it says so on the Amazon site. I went back and it is not clear to me where it says that and the Apple help line also could not find anything that says that. SOOOOOO if that is the case I would recommend that it is made more clear that if you have a Mac you should not buy this product.

"Perfect MP3" 2010-01-27
By Cheryl B.
This is the perfect MP3 if you just want music without all the fluff. Easy to download songs/playlists off WMP. Small and compact, clips anywhere. Easy to use, and good sound quality except that I hate ear buds because they fall out of my ears. Overall, I am very glad that I purchased this product.

iPod shuffle is jaw-droppingly small and enormously colorful in black, silver, pink, blue, and green. It can even tell you the names of your playlists, giving you a new way to navigate your music with the controls located on the earphone cord. Clip a 2 GB or 4 GB iPod shuffle to your sleeve, running shorts, or backpack and take up to 1,000 songs wherever you go.

iPod shuffle: The First Music Player that Talks to You

The World's Smallest Music Player
To create the world's smallest music player, we moved the controls from iPod shuffle to the earphone cord. This makes iPod shuffle smaller than ever, and the controls are right where you can reach them. So when you want to play, pause, or skip to the next tune, you don't have to fumble for your iPod shuffle--just follow the cord and press a button.

The First Music Player that Talks to You
VoiceOver will surely be the next big hit on your iPod shuffle. Say you're listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. Just press a button, and VoiceOver tells you. You can even hear the names of your playlists. And when your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too.

Easy-Access Controls
The controls are located on the right earphone cord. With command central strategically placed in this more convenient location, you can navigate your music--and activate the VoiceOver feature--without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing. iPod shuffle includes these easy-access controls, but you can also use headphones with similar controls from manufacturers like Scosche, Klipsch, V-MODA, and Belkin.

Your Music Library ... to Go
iPod shuffle is now available in both 2 GB and 4 GB capacities. So you have plenty of room to store hours and hours of music--up to 1,000 songs with the 4 GB model.2 That's a load of essentials for your workout or commute. And there's room for multiple playlists and audiobooks, too.

Multiple Playlists
You've probably made multiple playlists in iTunes. One for your commute. One for the gym. One for just chilling out. Now you can sync playlists on your computer with iPod shuffle, and play the perfect mix for your activity or mood. VoiceOver tells you the name of each playlist, so it's easy to switch between them and find the one you want without looking.

Let's Talk Color
The anodized aluminum enclosure makes iPod shuffle sleek and durable. It's even more colorful in gleaming pink, blue, green, black, or silver. And making its debut: the special edition iPod shuffle in polished stainless steel (Talk about rock star treatment). Even the iPod shuffle clip rocks. It attaches securely to your shirt, jacket, workout gear, and backpack, making iPod shuffle the perfect fashion tech-cessory. And yes, there's still room for personalized engraving.

Multiple Languages
A French love song. A Spanish bolero. An Italian cantata. Your music library has songs from all over the world. That's why VoiceOver speaks 20 different languages. So it can tell you song titles and artists in the correct languages.

To Shuffle or Not to Shuffle
The shuffle switch has three positions. Flip it to the left, and you'll hear your music in a refreshingly random way. Flip it to the middle, and your songs play in order. Or flip to the right to turn iPod shuffle off.

What's in the Box
Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Pink (4th Generation), Earphones with Remote, iPod shuffle USB Cable (1.8 inches/45 mm), Quick Start guide

"Miserable headphones - Aftermarket headphones don't work" 2010-02-27
By Big T
The headphones don't stay in my ears. you cannot use standard aftermarket headphones with this product because the headphones have the volume controls and other controls. i shelled out ten bucks for "acoustibuds" but they don't fit very well either and one has already fallen off and gotten lost. By the time you shell out for a Belkin headphone adapter and a decent pair of aftermarket headphones, you will have spent more on headphones than you did not the product.

"Apple F*'ed-up On This One!" 2010-02-22
By MarkW (San Diego, CA)
Apple's design mojo is LEGENDARY -- so you kind of take it for granted that when Apple releases a product they have thought it through, end-to-end. Not so in the case of the iPod Shuffle 4th Generation.

For starters -- what was wrong with the iPod Shuffle 2Gen/3Gen? It was small. You could wear it on your lapel and it simply worked. The controls were minimalist -- which is just fine if you planned to sweat.

So Apple DISCONTINUES a perfectly functional working product -- never mind the fact you've bought all sorts of adapters and accessories -- and they replace it with a new player the size of a money clip. OK. But it has no controls. Instead, you've got, basically, a "CLICKER" on the headphones wire -- the area which is notoriously sweaty -- and it controls all functions via multi-clicks -- e.g. click once to play, click twice to rewind, click and hold to advance, simply hold to hear song title. And a synthetic human voice now tells you which song and/or playlist is currently playing (clever enough, I admit).

For runners this is VERY clumsy to manipulate -- especially when running full stride. But the clicker control >>> IS NOT WATERPROOF <<< -- I've bought and returned 2 shuffles and can conclusively say that the smallest dew-drop of sweat will short-circuit this controller. So you're 20 minutes into a 60 minute workout and all you hear when you press play is "Boink. All songs. Boink. All songs. Boink. All songs. ..."

Like I said I returned all my 4th Gen shuffles and bought refurb 2 Gens from the Apple Store.

Design for design's sake leads to crappy "prototypes" like this one. Don't waste your money!

"Runners and gym enthusiants beware!" 2010-02-19
By S. Wilson
To my dismay, my old school generation 2 finally bit the dust after 2 years of fairly rugged use (trained for and ran in 2 marathons and several 5K's). I decided to update and buy a Gen 4 and I am terribly perplexed that I did not take the time to heed the warning of the other negative reviews of this product.

If are looking to add this product to your arsenal for the gym or outdoor exercise, you will quickly find that this product must have been designed and engineered by a sadist. Not only are you going to be pissed by the massive haphazard bounce of the ear buds, but the controls will leave you even more infuriated with the constant volume fluctuation and computerized voice repeating itself endlessly. I literally took the headphones and ipod off during my run and threw them them I was so frustrated.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this product if you plan on using it for exercise. You will be saving yourself a mountain of anger and frustration that will inevitably follow. The problem is the purchase of a Gen 2 Ipod (Ideal for any athlete, I might add) has now doubled in price since so many people have sworn off the new ones.

I hope this review saves another person from suffering the same fate that I did. You can't say you were not warned!!!

"Fourth return within 30 days" 2010-02-19
By Michael Drawdy (SE)
Unbelievable. I am a hard core Apple devotee, but they missed the boat on this one. Bought mine 7 Feb 10. Today is 18 Feb 10 and my third one is dead after a good workout in the gym. Tomorrow I will swap it out for number 4. What is going on here? Apple's idea is perfection, their execution is pitiful. The headphone controls are the problem. Apple's own support pages are chock full of the actual problem.

If I could, I would either recommend NO ONE purchase these, or have Apple do a massive recall. I guess through a few forums I can do the forum thing. The biggest problem is that most people (me included) don't dig too deeply until the problem surfaces.

Want an eye opener? Type "Apple 3G iPod Shuffle Headphone Problems" into Google. WOW!

"cheap headphone jack" 2010-02-25
By Richard Shannon
After reading all the positive reviews on Amazon, I bought 2 of these as valentine's presents for me and my wife.

Her headphone jack seems to be okay, but the one I got a Black 4 GB Fuze has a flimsy jack and the headphones lose the connection with only the motion of the cable when I walk with the player in my shirt pocket.

The jack only fits part way in, so that more than 1/8 inch of the shaft is still sticking out. It looks like you should shove the jack all the way in, but it won't go in very far.

Other than not having a good set of earphones because of the jack, and the ear buds are too big, it seems like a reasonable MP3 player for the price.

If you think you want this so you can get audibooks, Audible is a little hard to work with also. I went to a lot of work to download a book from them, and saved it in MP3 format so I could also listen to it on my laptop. But the MP3 format must be converted to audible's special format or it won't play on the Fuze.

I wish I had looked a little more before buying the Fuze.

"BETTER THAN MICROSOFT'S ZUNE" 2010-02-24
By CJ
After dealing with Microsoft's Zune MP3 Player, I found that there are several disadvantages:
1. Pay $45 every 3 months for the privilege to LISTEN ONLY to music and NOT be able to burn music. This is a stupid quarterly expense especially when we are minding our budgets.
2. Zune freezes a lot and takes time to trouble shoot; very frustrating.
3. Zune does NOT have a re-set button when it freezes; unlike the Sansa Fuze.
4. Zune is bulky.
5. I went on a cruise and took our Zune. All of a sudden it does not work because it wants me to sync with Microsoft's website in order to confirm that I am still a valid paying customer. How in the world am I going to do that when I am in the middle of the ocean?! Even if I can access the Microsoft website on the ship, the internet quality on cruise ships are as bad, if not worse, as dial-up connection. Consequently, I was not able to use my Zune during my cruise. As a result, my search to replace my Zune started and I was glad to discover all the great Amazon reviews regarding the SanDisk Sansa Fuze.

I read all the Sansa Fuze review on Amazon and purchased a Sana Fuze 4 GB MP3. It is a great MP3 player. For the amount I was paying Microsoft, I was able to BUY AND OWN music by downloading directly from Amazon. My Sansa only cost $59, the Zune is $199.

My only suggestion is to NOT use the Rhapsody software that came with the Sansa. I read from other reviews that the Rhapsody software is like a virus in that it is hard to get rid of the Rhapsody software once you download it into your PC. Plus, it puts you in a "membership" status in that you must pay periodically for the use of the software.

Amazon did a great job in delivering the Fuze in a timely manner. I got it in 4 days even though I selected the Free Shipping.

I use Windows Media Player to organize my songs and buy music from Amazon. I had a bit of a learning curve when I downloaded Amazon's software that enabled me to download MP3 music. I bought one song for 99cents and somehow failed to download it properly in my PC. I e-mailed Amazon and they allowed me to download the same song again at no charge. Indeed, I am happy with the SanDisk Sansa Fuze and I tossed my Zune in the trash.

"BEST PLAYER FOR MUSIC AND AUDIO BOOKS" 2010-02-22
By Flyman (Green Valley Az)
Have had this for 6 months. Solid feel-- good construction-- great sound and the only audio book friendly Player I found out of 3 mp3s I purchased. The unit starts where you shut it off and the ability to move back and forward in chapters of books quickly, make this a pleasure to use----- throw in great battery life and crystal clear sound and you can't go wrong with this Ipod killer. A decent set of ear buds finishes off the pkg. Using this with free local library digital down loads thru overdrive or net library makes this the best bargain for audio books that you can find.

"Somewhat satisfied linux user" 2010-02-22
By Eric Wadsworth (Salt Lake City, UT USA)
I'm not so interested in watching video (such a tiny screen!). Mostly I just use it to listen to music when driving, and keep it in my pocket for listening to podcasts.

As a linux user, I avoid Windows whenever I can, but I found I had to use it in order to get a video onto the player. Also, just plugging the device into my linux laptop with the USB cable, I can't see the storage on the player. So, in order to put media on the internal storage, I had to boot to Windows. Ugh.

I bought an 8GB micro-SD card, which I just plug into my laptop, and drag media onto it. There is a PODCASTS directory, which is under the MUSIC directory for some reason, but I just drop podcasts there, and they show up in the device as I expect. Same as music.

Works great for my purposes. There is probably a way to get linux to see the internal memory on the device, but I just haven't spent the time to figure it out yet.

"SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4GB MP3 Player Fine Performer" 2010-02-18
By C. Fred Zeillemaker (Ola, ID USA)
We use our two Sansa Fuze 4GB MP3's for audible books and they perform the task perfectly for us. In fact, we fall asleep most nights listening to books (Harry Potter is one of our favorite "reads") on them and they make it through the night every time following daily recharging. We think the Amazon price is very reasonable (especially compared to iPod prices!) and really like the presence of a slot that allows an unending expansion through memory cards. We have even given this model as a gift. I must reiterate that we do not listen to music on our units, so we can provide no evaluation for that use.

"I love this little guy!!!" 2010-02-18
By Alie (Fort Worth, TX)
I took time to do my homework on mp3 players before finally deciding on one. I had read wonderful things about this one. And all those positive reviews were spot on! I like having a screen to navigate...whereas the new ipods do without a screen in order to make them smaller. No thanks! I wanted to be able to go to my music list and find a certain song whenever I wanted to. The earphones that come with it are pure garbage...do yourself a favor, and go buy a nicer pair. I bought the kind that go deep into the ear...they are 'noise reduction' earbuds. They are fantastic! The battery charges when you plug your Sandisk into your computer. You can also listen to the radio which is a good gym feature. I am very happy with this mp3 player!! I recommend it to everyone if you are in the market for an mp3 player. This small little unit is unbelievable in its sound and portability. Hardly know you have it as it fits in the palm of your hand. We have a 4GB one and this 2GB one and it is more than adequate to handle all the songs we want to hear. Purchased Durable Flexible Clear Silicone Skin Case + Car + Home Travel Charger for Sandisk Sansa Clip 2gb 4gb 1gb Mp3 Player from Amazon so my husband and I are "ready to go". Don't waste your money on the high priced players as this one gives you all the bells and whistles you will need.

By P. T. Jones (Granada Hills, California)
I purchased this as a gift for my Brother-In-Law. He loves it. I have a 4GB Sansa Clip and it is a very good unit. The only problem I have had with it, was the clip broke. I finally found replacements on Sandisk site and purchased a 3 pack of clips for about $10.00 plus shipping. The only other problem I had was with the BIOS. The unit stopped working properly. When I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version it fixed the problem. I love how small and light it is.

"Tiny size - Big features" 2010-02-14
By J. Weeks
I got this for my son (7) at Christmas. My mom (63) already had one that I had recommended because of the great reviews for this player. She likes hers and my son loves his. He has found it easy to navigate although I do the downloading for him. The sound quality is excellent; especially for the small size of it. The included headphones sound decent also. It's loaded with plenty of features. If you're looking for a small player and you don't care about watching videos or seeing album art, you can't go wrong with this player. An added plus to this one versus most other players, is that the "Clip" has a clip - which means you can save a few bucks not having to order a case for it. I highly recommend! Ps If you like this one but want the ability to expand memory, check out the Sansa Clip Plus - it has a SD slot.

"Great little gadget!" 2010-02-14
By Deborah Belfiore (Avon, CT)
I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. He wanted it to bring down to our beach house in the summer to listen to tunes while on the beach. We obviously haven't used it there yet, but he's been playing around with it here and is very pleased with it. I have another brand that I'm fine with. His is more advanced and he is more "techi" so it's good for him.

"Sansa 8GB Fuze" 2010-02-25
By B. Keeping (Moncton, NB)
Excellent sound quality, easy to use. You can play music and still go back and resume an audiobook. The fast forward works very well also. By holding the forward button in it will speed up and quickly take you through a book section if you do happen to lose your spot.

"I love this thing!" 2010-02-17
By J. S. Cauffield (Vancouver, WA United States)
I bought an mp3 player because I was tired of carrying CDs everywhere with me. I really didn't want to mess with iTunes. My cell phone has the capacity to use microSD chips to expand memory, and I really wanted this option for my mp3 player, too. Finally, I wanted it to be EXERCISE portable...small enough that I didn't have to worry about it bouncing around when I ran. This little device has delivered all of this and more. It's no bigger than a credit card, and no thicker tahn a pencil. I purchased an 8 GB microSD card for a total of 16 GB of memory. That's a LOT of music! microSD's come with more memory than this, of course, so options are pretty flexible. AS with any portable device, I recommend using a screen protector and silicon skin. Fortunately, there are good accessory packages for the Fuze available on Amazon, so I picked everything up together. The package included and arm band, so it's very easy for me to pack my tunes wherever I go. What I didn't expect was the great sound quality. I've used both the earphones that come with the Fuze, and a Skull Candy set. I'm happy with the sound from both, although I use the latter set almost exclusively now. Battery life is great...I've never run it down all the way, and I'll listen to it sometimes for

I purchased this player because my daughter has one and she loves it. Now I love it too. So far I haven't had any problems with it. I would buy it again.

"Very low reliability" 2010-02-15
By T. Magnusson (CT, USA)
I had this player for less than a year when it started to crack on me. The buttons started to freeze so they can no longer be moved any direction. With this failure I can not choose any more different functions or another song.
From SanDisk homepage it seems that I am not the only one experiencing low reliability with this product

"Sansa Fuze using MediaMonkey "FLAC" - Really good stuff" 2010-02-13
By D. Hackenbruch
I bought the Sansa Fuze 8GB Silver, with an additional 8GB media card, for my husband. He had been using the Pioneer Inno for MP3 play back for outdoor hiking, trail walking, and the gym (obvious poor XM reception areas). He is really, REALLY happy with the Fuze as it provides virtually continuous music through custom playlists and additional media cards.

This is the way he uses it:
* Did not download Rhapsody (he doesn't need, nor like it)
* Does not use nor like "MP3" audio codec (see later bullets)
* Did download "MediaMonkey" free version for all copying, file storage and sync functions of music and playlists ([...])
* Does rip, copy, and store all of his music media using MediaMonkey - FLAC - Free Lossless Audio Codec - Compression Level 6
* Does not use the "system" sync function. He only syncs what playlist(s) he has made and stored in MediaMonkey (this keeps a lot of the unnecessary noise from using space)
* Has made various playlists of most genres of his music, now using his 4th 8GB media card
* Uses the Sansa Fuze in his truck (through the Inno setup), on our home stereo (through the Inno setup), at the gym, and everywhere else outdoors.
* Only uses the Fuze for his "playlist(s)" music functionality.

Sure the Sansa Fuze has a lot more functionalities than what he is using it for and if they work with the same quality as the music, well that's great. But for him, it's just about the ease and FLAC quality of the music. All in all, we would both have to say he is now a much happier "with his portable music" husband.
