 "Fun and exciting" 2010-04-15

By Kelly K. Dallum (Keizer, OR USA)

I recently got the Nike + IPOD Sport Kit. It's really fun and makes running even more fun and exciting. I like how it tells you the mileage, calories, and time. It keeps me motivated each time I run! The online program is really cool also, it tracks your runs and allows you to set goals and join challenges. Definitely worth it to get and check out!

 "Good Product" 2010-04-14

By Matthew Geraci (St. Amant, LA)

I have had this product for 4 months and I enjoy using it. I have two sensors, one for each pair of shoes I use to run with. I calibrated the sensor at a local track to get the best accuracy. The one hang-up I have found is that on longer runs it doesn't transmit very accurately. For instance, I calibrated the sensor using a 2.2 mile distance at a local track (8 laps in the outer lane). Weeks later I ran in a half marathon race and when I finished the race it said I had only run 11.7 miles. This affects your overall pacing and timing if you run long distances. My suggestion is to use the longest and most accurate run to calibrate the sensor. I used the half-marathon to re-calibrate and my unit has been much more accurate.

 "Don't waste your money." 2010-04-13

By Lee Delgado (New York, NY)

It's now April 2010 and for over 6 months now, [...] has yet to get this ish together. The site totally sucks. If you're looking to upload your runs and share with friends and all that greatness that Nike makes is seem to be, then don't waste your time. You're not able to search for your friends, sync your email contacts, you get errors when syncing in with facebook and twitter. It syncs fine from your ipod/iphone to itunes but once it gets sent to [...] is when you get screwed. I've been searching through all the threads and forums and they say they're working on it but over 6 months? For now, I would just skip buying this sensor and just download an app. Don't believe the hype, there is no friendly nike online running community. Seems like everyone is getting these issues.

"I think some people are expecting too much from this" 2010-04-12

By J. Williams (Riverside, CA)

I don't work out, or I should say I didn't before getting this, the truth is I've been wanting this but refusing to buy it since it was announced. It works with the Touch 2nd gen + all the Nanos, but they can't make one that works with my 1st Gen Touch ARRGH! With that said, I broke down and bought a Nano 5g and the Nike + Sports Kit on Easter Sunday. I see some reviews where the people are complaining about how it's not very accurate. It's very possible some of them didn't put the sensor in right (I'll bring this up in next paragraph) I paid $29 for it, and honestly it does a pretty damn good job tracking my jogging. It's not spot on, but for $29 I don't expect something that will be accurate to the hundredth of a mile. I don't own the Nike + shoes (yet) I have some Reeboks and bought the Nathan pouch for the sensor. Supposively the sensor is even more accurate when used with a Nike + shoe, but I get within 3-4% which is good enough for me. I think it should get down to 2-3% once I go to a proper running track to calibrate it. While even 2% off might be too much for a lot of people to deal with. It's perfectly fine with me. I bought this for 1 reason, because I wanted to start walking/jogging and I thought it sounded cool and looked like it could be fun.

It delivers on the cool and fun part. It's VERY easy to set up, just make sure weather you use a Nike + shoe or a 3rd party pouch that you put the sensor in face up, that's with the Nike & Apple logo facing up. Before you start using it for real you need to calibrate it, walking and running/ Now I haven't worked out for ages (5'11 210'ish lbs) so I did the minimum distance for the running calibration, which is .25 miles. Not vert far but I thought I was going to stop breathing after I completed it lol. It's the best idea to calibrate it on an actual running track. Like at a high school or college. I don't have access to one, but when I do I'll re-calibrate it for 1 mile - hopefully by then I'll be able to actually run an entire mile :D After you calibrate you can start walking/running. When you're done, hook up your iPod to your PC/MAC and it will ask if you want to auto sync the data with the [...] web site. You create a free account on there and can start tracking your usage. You can also track it directly from your Nano/Touch and there's even some basic stats directly in iTunes - Distance, pace, calories burned, farthest workout and a few others. The Web site's where this starts to really shine. You can set goals and it tracks your progression, you can also join or even create your own challenges. This is another point where you really start to see just how damn cool this product is. There are hundreds of challenges out there, and if you don't see one you like, just start your own. There are hundreds of thousands of active users on the web site, so the challenges are definitely fun. And they have them for all experience levels. A beginning runner can join one where they'll run 20 miles in a month, or an advanced runner can join one where they run 5 miles a day. Thru the use of the pedometer there are step goals, yesterday was my first real day using it. And today I hit my first step goal "climb a 100 story skyscraper" (4500 steps) Each time you sync it updates your progression, and I must say it was cool to watch the animation go up each time I synced today. I hit 100% and felt accomplishment. There are dozens of these goals. The non pedometer goals are for distance/speed/number of runs. You can customize each and add as many as you want. Each shows your progression whenever you sync and have new workout data on your Nano.

Last cool feature, I mean really cool is the Power Song. It sounded neat to me when I first heard about it, but kind of corny too. Last night I was running and was starting to hit my wall towards the last few minutes of the jog. So I pressed the power song button, which will play a song or a playlist that you specify in the Nike+ Setup. When Gonna Fly Now (Rocky's Theme) came on, it really did give me a boost. I was abel to finish up the last .12 miles - don't laugh I'm out of shape and 35. I officially love the Power Song feature. Since I have a few songs I consider power songs I made a smart playlist in iTunes that will randomly sync a different song to my power song playlist every day I sync. Gonna Fly Now is kind of a de-facto "pump your ass up" song to most people. But you can use whatever floats your boat.

I know this review's long, but I wanted to break down everything about this, I know I've only been using it a few days, but I can already see how the goals/challenges on the web site are going to keep me motivated to push on. At $29 it's a great deal IMHO, even if you don't have a Nano or Touch you can pick one up for pretty cheap. I don't think I could bring myself to jog/run without this. It makes the workout interesting. Another cool feature, if you set a workout for lets say a mile you get a female (or male if you set it) voice telling you when you're 1/2 way and when you have 200 yards left. On longer runs it gives you voice updates more often, but I haven't done over a mile yet so I can't comment on them. Also the voice congratulates you when you've set a new distance/time/speed record. Which is very motivating, hopefully the lady won't yell and cuss me out if I have a crummy workout where I'm slow and pathetic lol.

I have a Touch & a Nano, and honestly as much as I wanted this on my Touch because of the big screen, the size/weight of the Nano is perfect and I'm actually no longer upset it doesn't work on my 1st gen Touch. Nike has really came up with a winner here, and I believe the ultra large community on the web site pushes it over the top. It also doesn't hurt that Nike seemed to put a lot of thought and time into the web site and hopefully will continue to update/add to it. I'm really curious to see where Nike+ is in another year. Hopefully I'll still be using it then.

"A great, inexpensive product to get more out of your running" 2010-04-08

By M & E's Pop (AZ, USA)

Pros: Easy to use, quite accurate (once calibrated), run tracking feature at Nike+, helps maintain motivation to run

Cons: Sensor Battery Issue (cannot replace)

As a recreational, non-competitive runner, I purchased the kit in October of 2009 (now April 2010) and thus far have logged about 250 miles on it at about 3 to 4 runs per week. I chose the Apple/Nike option as I NEED to have my music and desired my running progress to be tracked. I looked into the GPS option and despite its more precise distance tracking feature, I did not want two devices to manage and I didn't want to spend the money for a Nano AND and GPS watch/system. So far I am VERY satisfied with it and would recommend to those wanting more precision in their running.

My experience details thus far: First thing before your run, you need to attach the sensor to your shoe. Nike wants you to think that only their shoes equipped with the Nike+ capability will work with the shoe sensor. These Nike shoes have a 'cut out' below the insole on the left shoe to fit the sensor. However, you most certainly do not need Nike+ equipped shoes to use this successfully. Any shoe will work, although I do recommend using a 'sleeve' to secure the sensor to your laces. After getting your sensor in place, you need to calibrate the unit. I first made the mistake of just running with the unit without doing this step. The result was my pace was way off and I was running at an unbelievable pace (I wish). The calibration is a straight forward process where the user defines how far the 'calibration distance' will be. Once the unit was calibrated, I found it to be remarkably accurate. After tracking off a mile in my car, both the trip odometer and the Nano report 1 mile at exactly the same spot. It is worth noting that you can calibrate the Nano for both running and walking as well.

Once you are ready to run, you simply scroll to the Nike+ option on your Nano, pick a workout type (you can set a calorie, distance or time goal, or simply choose basic which is an open ended workout) playlist or shuffle, and off you go. At any time during the workout session you want to know how you are tracking, simply push the middle button of the click wheel, and a male or female (your choice) will return the distance traveled, the time lapsed in your workout, and your current pace (per mile). Your iPod will also 'mark' each time you use this feature within the run details as a reference when viewing on the Nike+ website. It also maintains the calories burned as well. Once you complete the workout, the voice will report back your run details. When you connect into iTunes, it will detect your workout and ask if you desire to connect with Nike+ to upload your session(s). There, once you have created an account, you can track your progress (pace, calories, miles run/walked, etc), can set goals (running frequency, distance, and pace) and accept challenges (often set by other runners or by Nike/Apple). I find these help me stay motivated and enhance my running experience.

Many site the battery issue as a con, and although I am still running on the original sensor battery, it is indeed a problem. In today's throw away culture, there is too much of this and I feel a simple engineering fix would save both consumers money and landfills from more junk. Unfortunately, Apple and Nike decided that they want your money more than being socially and environmentally conscious. So, count on dropping at least another $20 to replace the shoe sensor once the battery expires (I have heard that they can last 1 - 2 years depending on use).

Bottom line, this is a good product for those looking for an inexpensive option to bring more purpose to their running and fitness.

 "Good show" 2010-04-02

By D. Springer

THe headphones were shipped promptly to my address, as well as being conveniently and efficiently packaged. They were exactly what I was expecting, although I had actually thought that, for such a low price, the quality would be low. I was pleased to find that I was wrong on that count. I use them nearly every day and have not had any problems yet. If you are looking for some quality earbuds that don't put much of a dent in your wallet, I would say that you have found them with this product.

 "In-Ear iPod Headphones" 2010-03-29

By VINCENT AUSTIN-COLE (BLACKWOOD, NJ, US)

These in-ear headphones arrived in only 2 days, and I was quite pleased that they contained foam ear bud covers, which help these classic headphones stay in my ear, no matter what I'm doing. I'm very glad I ordered 2 sets of these, cause I can now have one set at work and one set at home.

I never thought I'd appreciate having my puppy chew up one of my electronic accessories, but this time - a big THUMBS UP!! I would recommend replacing these headphones at least once a year for 2 reasons. 1) you never know when you may loose your original set, and 2) they are priced to afford replacing them more than once a year (if you have an adventurous pet who loves chewing on electronic accessories).

Overal i was disappointed with the product due to false advertisement.

"Doesn't work with 1st gen iPod Touch" 2010-04-05

By M. Jackson (Seattle, WA United States)

I'm a little mad about this. I bought this thinking it would work fine with my 1st generation iPod touch... but it doesn't. 2nd gen or higher only. It doesn't state this anywhere in the technical details. Just BEWARE if you are planing on using it for an older (1st gen) iPod. I'm waiting to hear back from apple if I could use a receiver from the nano kit with my touch and get the same effect, but I am not hopeful.

"Great item, just a few caveats." 2010-04-03

By Beans' Mum (Burbank, CA)

This is a great item especially for new or casual runners.

A few caveats:

1. There's an option to calibrate or not to. Calibrating will work for some, while others will receive a more accurate mileage read if you don't. Best way to check is by measuring your distance on a treadmill. That being said, give it a little wiggle room for error.

2. Try not to use it (by keeping in/on your shoe) if you aren't using it for a run you want to measure, because the battery keeps going as long as it senses movement.

3. Don't buy a used sensor - you have no idea for how long it was previously used. The battery might just die on you on your first run. A brand new, unused sensor will last a couple to several months. Mine lasted 3 months, being used 6 times a week at 2-3 mile intervals.

4. Input information! Your weight, time and date are important to review your progress and give you a better idea of calories burned. I was deliriously happy to learn that I had burned 500+ calories on a 3-mile run, only to realize later that it was because my weight had been inputted at 250lbs. :P

The great thing about this little gadget is how easy and user-friendly it is. It tracks mileage, pace, calories burned and your progress. It's simple, great for motivation and doesn't interrupt your music abruptly. And hearing someone congratulate you for your longest/fastest run is pretty fun.

All in all, definitely worth what you're paying for.

 "1 Star for Not Supporting iPhone 3G - Doesn't Work!" 2010-04-02

By C. Benjamin (Carrboro, NC USA)

Ok I'm sure this item deserves plenty of stars when it works, but it does not work with iPhone 3G. You must have an iPhone 3GS. I, however, am waiting for the iPhone 4G so I cannot use this product. It is annoying that the description does not clearly warn people about compatibility, and it's surprising that I can find no fix. There seems to be no app or plug-in or anything of the sort to make the sensor work with my phone. Very disappointed.

"this is NOT an iPhone headset" 2010-04-07

By JPnyc (New York City)

Ok, i was in a rush when I bought this and thought, hey, this is the exact same thing as my iPhone headset.

Has a mic, check and yes, has a remote control of volume.

Little did i know, that this thing works ONLY with the iPod, and apparently not even with EVERY iPod, but only a few select ones. It also works with a few MacBooks, but again, not with EVERY MacBook.

I thought this information was hard to extract from the description, even though it actually does state " ... works with blah, blah ..." - it doesn't explicitly say which - apple - device it doesn't work with.

My loss, their gain, I guess.

3 stars for that, as I am sure the deception is on purpose. I am not the first person to mention it.

 "Awesome--Especially with iPod Touch" 2010-04-02

By Robert W. Prince (Fairbanks, AK USA)

These are expensive little buggers, but I really like them. I bought them so I could turn my iPod Touch 3G into a ghetto iPhone using Skype, and although I almost never use it for that, I've tried it and it does work fine. I've found at times that clicking the control on the headphones is a little tough to work just right, but most of the time it does the job of skipping, pausing, and replaying songs well. The volume control on the headphones is flawless. The mic works really well, in my opinion, considering it's extremely small size. In combination with the voice memo app on the iPod Touch, you can record voice memos for yourself as well as record your voice for other apps (like "fake caller," a free app that entertained my friend's kids for hours). So this really adds a lot more functionality to an iPod Touch and can even turn it into a back-up phone when you're in a wi-fi hotspot (Skype app and a fee to call land lines are required).

"Just bought my fourth pair!!!" 2009-11-05
By J. Clifton (San Diego, CA)
I love these headphones! I had a friend recommend them to me when my old pair died so I gave them a try for $15 at target. I loved them! They lasted for most of a year and then wore out. I then proceeded to purchase a second pair. I used those until they were lost so I decided to go after a deal on something else on amazon, hated them and impulsively purchased another at target, wore them out and finally bough the pair I have now off of amazon. They generally last around 9 months and then die of pocketitis, which is quite alright for me. I just think that for $15, you get some pretty awesome tone quality and if you lose them, it's not a big deal. What's nice is that I once lost one of the rubber ear pads on my last pair, so I used one of the pads from my first pair as a replacement.

As a college student with ADD, I consider these particularly valuable when used alongside an iPod and a track of white noise on repeat when I'm studying in the library so that I can better focus. I sometimes just put them in my ears without plugging them in to help me block out distractions and have even used them as hearing protection during a summer project. I accidentally got white paint on my black and blue headphones and it made them look even cooler!

YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER PAIR OF EARBUDS FOR UNDER $20!!!

As soon as this pair dies, I'm buying another pair of the exact same thing.

it's bad for working out, even walking the earphone gets out of the ear. i tried with a different bud for at least 2 days, and the conclusion was: the bigger buds is the better to avoid any sound, but gets out of the ear, the medium... not too good sound and for me is unconfortable.

While u're using it.... it's very light, u dont notice u are wearing the earphones =) that's nice

final recomendation... spend a few $ and buy a better one.

The only other ear phones I've had were the ones that came with my ipod, and those were the worst. So in comparison the skull candy ink'd are better, but like many of others have mentioned they have that horrible stethoscope attribute where if anything touches the wire you hear it loud and clear. So I would say they're worth it if you pay $11 like i did but otherwise look on.

 "Not what I expected..." 2009-10-21
By D. P. Jividen (Abilene, TX USA)
So I bought these to use at my last job because I had music on for at least 6 hours a day normally. My experience with other Bose products, not headphones, was very positive so I got these fancy little earbuds.

Pros:

Very comfortable, I can wear them all day and the stay put and don't make your ears sore.

Crystal clear sound across the whole sound spectrum at low to mid volume.

Ear pieces are easy to switch out and come in multiple sizes.

Cons:

Ear pieces come off way to easy and I've nearly lost them a few times.

Bass gets terribly distorted if you crank these up beyond the mid volume.

They are not durable at all. The wire covering cracks quickly exposing wire, especially at the base of the earbuds and at the input jack.

Overall, I can't say these are worth the money. I can get past the bass distortion, I can handle the ear pieces coming off every so often, but the wiring falling apart? Seriously Bose... how the hell can you put your name on a product that falls apart so easily?

"Insecure, Loose & Purchase Spare" 2009-10-12
By Max Torque (Morriston, NJ USA)
Bad points:

a) silicon tips do not seal tightly regardless of which size (small, med, large included). This means you can hear external sounds which can be good and bad. This also means they can fall off/out of the ear canal requiring adjustment. Lastly, this means that you must turn the volume up approx. 30% or more to achieve listenable volumes.

b) The tips easily fall off the earbud and, in my case, get lost easily. I have used all the provided pairs of replacement tips and am now purchasing replacement sets so I can continue to use the earbuds.

c) wire is heavy gauge, and a good length for most uses.

d) Plug-in connector is perfect size to fit through silicon skins (many are too large and are pushed out).

e) comes with lapel clip that works acceptably

 "Not well constructed" 2009-09-10
By Dennis Cullen (midwest)
Used for last 7 months. Silicone buds fall off constantly and hard to find due to color. Had to buy extras online. Bad enuf, but then the right earpiece fall apart. Had to glue that together. I don't use them for exercise or running. That's the reason for the low rating. Still, no real bass but decent mid and upper range. Not really what I expected from Bose. These were rated higher at one time but I recommend going to a shop and trying a few competitors out before you buy.

Don't let upper end price fool you either as I had another higher priced set that failed after 1 yr and they couldn't be fixed.

I have used ear buds a long time and over the ears for 25 yrs so I think that qualifies as an experience amateur. Didn't know I would have to be a repairman as well.

 "Common problem with durability" 2009-09-07
By Louise Miller
As noted in many reviews already posted, there is a quality problem with these earphones. After less than 18 months of gentle use (but over the 12-mo warranty) the wires and their protective covering frayed and separated where they enter the jack. Bose service rep says this is not repairable (I can't imagine why not, except they'd rather not). He offered me the 'opportunity' to replace the earphones for $50. Say what? Why would I want to pay that for the same product after it fell apart? As usual, Bose's promotion and advertising far exceeds product performance.

 "best earbuds I've tried" 2009-08-30
By J. Ard
I'm not a Bose fan but after trying innumerable earbuds I'm thrilled to have found these. I was about to buy a set of shures (can't remember the model) but after sampling these it was a no brainer for me. Bass is surprising - I wasn't aware earbuds could put that much out. I find the highs and mids just right for me.

When I originally bought these they came with three silicone earbud tips (SM, MED and LG), the headphones and a leatherette case. It took several days of playing and getting used to the feel as they simply "sit" in your ear - no pushing or twisting involved. Originally I felt they were insecure and was thinking of returning them, but after trying them steady for about a week I got used to them and now LOVE the fit. I also use them to work out and was dissatisfied that the tips would fall off too easily (while running sometimes my hand would catch the cord resulting in my ripping the bud out of my ear and resulting in the silicone tip flying away). Also when I began sweating the buds would slip out of my ear too easily. Consumers complained about this and Bose responded: BRAVO! Bose now supplies an updated version that has a redesigned silicone tip that snaps in place - no more eartip flying away! Also there is lanyard which when attached sits behind your neck and effectively takes the weight off the cord - when properly adjusted the headphones don't fall out of my ears when running. Of course, I purchased the non-updated set; however by logging onto the Bose website you can request the updated features for your headphones free of charge. I completed the request and a week later and the three sets of updated eartips and the lanyard. Was very impressed! I highly recommend these earbuds but suggest you give them several days to get used to them as the design is fit is so different from the norm.

Four stars b/c during intense summer workouts and I sweat profusely, the earbuds will still slip out at times. This is easily solved by wiping the buds dry on your shirt (if you can find a dry spot) but it is a bit of a pain when running for time.

One other note: I've never had them fall out when on the elliptical or treadmill. When lifting weights or doing situps: they suck. b/c of the way they sit in your ear when you lie on your back they slip right out. I might consider another set for working out that wraps around the ear (but have been using these for over a year and only occasionally have to fight to keep them in my ear), but for the sound - I'll never go back to another earbud.

 "Meets all requirements" 2009-10-29
By Amateur Player
The Onkyo TX-8255 Receiver was easy to set up, but most importantly works beautifully with all my other equipment. I was worried about 50 watts/channel, but no issue. The sound is better than my original receiver. The remote is easy to use. Highly recommend this product.Onkyo TX-8255 Stereo Receiver

 "Nice receiver" 2009-10-26
By Dave (Philly)
I wanted a decent amp with good sound and decent frequency response. I didn't need surround sound and other bells and whistles. I wanted a receiver/amp that would play music and sound great. This product fits the bill. I have it hooked up to my old Polk 10s with a cd player, mp3 player and HD radio. It was a perfect fit for me.

 "Onkyo Review" 2009-10-26
By Tickie (va)
Am very pleased with the performance of the unit. Everything was as promised.

Only very mild dislike is the way the preset radio station function is set up. Would prefer that the unit allowed the user to go directly to the desired radio station. The unit as designed only allows sequencing through the entire set of preset stations. It is hard to tell which station you have landed on.

Otherwise everything is fine.

 "Very nice unit" 2009-10-24

I purchased the TX-8255 as a receiver/amp for my TV and ipod. I first thought 50 watts was going to be too quiet, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got the speakers hooked up. Plenty of sound and easy to set up.

 "Geezer in MA" 2009-10-21
By Sailor sailor man (Boston MA area)
This summer, the 20+ year old AM/FM receiver in my Maine vacation cottage died. It was a remarkablly reliable and sophisticated Technics receiver whose power supply gave out. After searching for a replacement, I selected the Onkyo TX-8255 Stereo Receiver based on its simplicity (I wanted a good FM tuner plus inputs for a CD and audio tape), apparent power plus reliability, and of course cost. Amazon's price was the best, though at other times I could have found it for less. I ordered regular shiping but it arrived in two days!!!

The unit is as advertized: a basic receiver. No real bells and whistles. The sound is good to my elderly ears and controls are intuitive. I set it up in about five minutes, turned on the power and my problem was solved. Just what the doctor ordered.

Complaints? Nothing I didn't expect based on reviews and descriptions I'd read. Still, I am disappointed it doesn't have a loudness button and its tuning interval is .1 mhz (not .05 the Technics had), so it can't pull in distant stations as well as I'd like - i.e like the Technics.

Would I recommend it? Yes.
