"this is NOT an iPhone headset" 2010-04-07

By JPnyc (New York City)

Ok, i was in a rush when I bought this and thought, hey, this is the exact same thing as my iPhone headset.

Has a mic, check and yes, has a remote control of volume.

Little did i know, that this thing works ONLY with the iPod, and apparently not even with EVERY iPod, but only a few select ones. It also works with a few MacBooks, but again, not with EVERY MacBook.

I thought this information was hard to extract from the description, even though it actually does state " ... works with blah, blah ..." - it doesn't explicitly say which - apple - device it doesn't work with.

My loss, their gain, I guess.

3 stars for that, as I am sure the deception is on purpose. I am not the first person to mention it.

 "Apple Earphones" 2010-04-05

By Malhar Desai (Plainsboro, NJ USA)

Although most people say that the standard Apple Earphones don't actually fit them well enough (fall off from ears occasionally), these Earphones are worth the price. They provide the best sound quality (aside from Noise-Canceling Headphones) and are considerably more durable than other Earphones.

 "Awesome--Especially with iPod Touch" 2010-04-02

By Robert W. Prince (Fairbanks, AK USA)

These are expensive little buggers, but I really like them. I bought them so I could turn my iPod Touch 3G into a ghetto iPhone using Skype, and although I almost never use it for that, I've tried it and it does work fine. I've found at times that clicking the control on the headphones is a little tough to work just right, but most of the time it does the job of skipping, pausing, and replaying songs well. The volume control on the headphones is flawless. The mic works really well, in my opinion, considering it's extremely small size. In combination with the voice memo app on the iPod Touch, you can record voice memos for yourself as well as record your voice for other apps (like "fake caller," a free app that entertained my friend's kids for hours). So this really adds a lot more functionality to an iPod Touch and can even turn it into a back-up phone when you're in a wi-fi hotspot (Skype app and a fee to call land lines are required).

Listening to your iPod on the go is even more convenient with this wired remote and high-quality earphones set. Compatible with all iPod models except iPod with video, iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The earbud-style headphones rely on Neodymium transducers, a rare earth magnet that significantly enhances frequency response and overall sound quality - in fact, five times as powerful as other headphones that use aluminum, cobalt, or ceramic drivers. The wired remote lets you fast forward, rewind, play/pause, and control the volume with four simple buttons. The Hold switch allows you to lock your iPod remote so buttons can't be pressed accidentally. Clip the remote to your lapel, shirt, or collar for easy access.

"Would work better if I had a ipod touch" 2009-09-12
By A. Martinez (Pueblo, Co)
The headphones are pretty good, I did not have the problems that others have had with the earphones breaking. When I originally purchased them it was supposed to be compatible with ipod classic, but the remote only works with the touch and mini. Other than that for the price I cant complain. sound quality is great on the headphones. I cant say how the remote works because I have not used it.

The technical specifications for this product are wrong.

It is in fact not compatible with the iPod Video (5g or 5.5g) and the iPod Nano 1g. What other models it is incompatible with, I do not know but i own both these iPods and the Headphone and Data plug set up this uses is not available on any of those three iPod Models.

i have an ipod video, 30g, and these do not work with it. only the really old models have that extra little port near the headphone jack and without it the remote is useless. the only bonus is that i got another pair of apple headphones for about eight bucks. i bought these to use with a wired backpack and since they dont do what they say im still on the market.

"does what it says, and nothing more" 2009-09-17

This handy little remote does work very well with my macbook (use it to play/pause videos), but since buying this I have learned there are other more expensive remotes that offer more features, like those that come with docking stations or those that are RF rather than IR...which I probably would have preferred but oh well I'm still gonna hold on to mine though because it is way cheaper than the other options.

"Wish it came in black" 2009-09-03
By S. Herrin
This comes in handy for presentations with my Macbook. It makes it very easy to go through a slide show in PowerPoint or Impress. It's tiny, so I don't have to cart around some receiver and remote to get the same functionality. And I can use my own bright green laser pointer, instead of having to carry it in addition to the extra bulk from having a dim red one built into a remote.

It also works just fine for playing media. It even works with third-party players like VLC straight out of the box.

I wish it worked with Preview. Maybe that will come in an update. But, sometimes I give slide shows from a PDF. And it would be nice to be able to advance through those slides.

I also wish it came in black. The white plastic doesn't match my aluminum and black Macbook at all.

But, overall, it's a decent remote, and works as easily as any Apple product.

 "Massive improvement over the ipod/iphone pack-ins" 2009-09-29
By glop (KY)
Having read some of the less positive reviews, I put off getting these for a long time, but finally picked them up last week, since logic insists that the dual element driver cannot be anything but an improvement, and others with similar technology cost more than my iphone did.. The improvement in bass response over the earbuds included with my ipod and iphone is really major. The sound is shockingly clear and the bass is just so much more than I expected- not overpowering, but much much richer and more clear. I can only assume that people who didn't care for them were wearing them wrong, as the difference is really very dramatic. I will still drag my iphone pack-ins along for phone calls, but for music I wouldn't use anything other than these. Very very happy I picked them up.

 "Inferior product" 2009-09-27
By sannat99 (Philadelphia, PA)
I received the BOSE earphones as a gift last year and it was stolen while i was on vacation. Those earphones were the best at filtering out outside noise and were pretty comfortable. I had a problem with one of the ears not having the clearest sound after a few months and the company sent me a NEW ONE after I sent back the old one...NO questions asked and very efficiently.

I went to Apple and the representative convinced me that the Apple in set headphones were $20 cheaper and just as good. WRONG. First of all, they fall out of your ears frequently especially if you are working out. They can collect dirt and ear wax. They are not as good at filtering sound as the BOSE ones. After a few months, the left ear lost sound. I wanted to exchange for a new set and I was told that I needed to make an appointment with their technical support agent to see if I would qualify for an exchange. Are you kidding? The headphones are not the iPhones...either they work or not and it does not take a GENIUS to figure that out or a lot of time. Spend the extra money and buy the BOSE phones...their product and their customer service are SUPERIOR.

"Perfect once you replace the rubber buds!! Survived the wash too." 2009-09-26
By SparX (NY, New York)
I bought this, and was sour spring and summer because these things would not hold in my ears (tried all the sizes). I mean, they would hold but the whole time I could feel it slipping out and I would have to push them back in every 4 songs to keep that tight fit. Tight fit means you hear the bass, which is clearly there. The dual drivers help in that aspect. You do get a full sound, but again those annoying rubber buds!

So one day I thought I lost them and I went shopping for a new pair and wasn't gonna buy the same apple kind either but all the other brands were more expensive/didn't have the dual drivers, so I decided to lay off. I found my pair in my shorts after it had gone through the laundry. Still works!! +1. Decided to go google searching and I came to a website: [...], where they offer specific foam replaceable tips for all sorts of headphones. I ordered a 3-pair pack and these headphones are perfect now. It costs [...] which brings the total for these headphones to [...] which is FAR cheaper than the other brands yet sounds better (dual-drivers).

So look at it this way: Buy these in-ear headphones for the sound, and not the fit, because the fit (those rubber tips) are worth 1% of what you're paying. Take care of the fit afterwards with foamy ones, and I promise you'll be quite satisfied with these headphones then.

Conclusion: Survived the wash, amazing sound w/ clear bass, compatible with Comply Foam Tips T-140.

"Very comfortable, pretty mediocre and baseless sound." 2009-09-20
By S. Stanley (Denver, CO USA)
Sound is a very personal thing. That's the only way I can imagine that the positive reviews of these earphones make sense. They are the most comfortable, sealing type of earphones I've tried and that does count for something. However, like all Apple audio products connected with iPod land, they have very poor lower range. No oomph. That is especially odd for sound isolation type earphones (and yes, I have the perfectly fitted with the right silicone adapters on). Just as iPods lack the ability to pump out much bass without distortion (I have a 3 Gen Nano and a new iPod Touch) compared to products such as iRiver, sony, or Samsung players, these earphones seriously lack the ability to product robust bass. They are very bright which I find fatiguing to my ears. I also have a pair of Sony EX85LPs. Those sound vastly superior to these Apple phones, on any of my players (iPod, iRiver, & Sony). If you like at least the ability of phones to reproduce solid bottom end while retaining clear mids and highs, I'd recommend those Sonys instead or a pair of Sennheisers (though, in my experience, the comparable Senns have a terrible cord that annoys the heck out of your neck). To each his own on sound, but I think the Sony's are a lot better in this price range than these Apple phones.

"These were awful and we sent them back." 2009-09-23
By Trillum (Portland OR)
After reading the reviews I thought I would take a chance on these. I am really not a music snob and don't have to hear all the tiniest aspects to the sound but really these speakers were just awful. The wireless quality of these are not very good. My wireless function in my Roku that has to send video and audio information at the same time from and to the same area in the house has no quality degregation but these speakers that have to send only audio is pathetic. If only our Roku could stream music....is anyone at Roku listening?

I am no expert on speakers but also the quality of the sound coming out of these units are junky. Hey I grew up with transitor radios and vinyl with all the pops and crackles and these speakers belong to that time in technology. Sometimes the sound would break off and sometimes it wouldn't work at all unless you played with it. There is no stereo sound to them so placing them in the room together adds nothing to the enjoyment of the music it sounds like two cheap speakers in two parts of the room. It makes you realize how you take stereo for granted now a days. My Trackman wireless mouse works better.

If I have better working wireless audio devises then I know it is not the technology that is not there yet is is the cheap components these guys use.

Are you getting what you are paying for. Probably yes. Since Roku is probably being subsidized by Netflix. The same company that makes Roku also makes the higher end online music streaming units which go for about three times what the Roku goes for. These speakers are a third of the cost of those better units. But there are other better options for cheap.

Until I save for one of the better music streaming units I decided that getting a speaker splitter and then a long cord from my computer to bookshelf unit in livingroom sounded so much better than these wireless speakers. I bought a cheap Altec Lansing VS2421 for less than 30.00 and then a speaker splitter and long speaker cord 75' out to living room for not much at all. To find the longer speaker cords you need to shop one line and there are lots of suppliers to pick from. I stream my music that way for very little money. Since we bought the Altec Lansing I am sure there are newer models and other brands that are good too, I don't think you can buy this on Amazon anymore. Or you can just plug your mp3 player directly into a 2.1 speaker unit as well. We like to listen to Rhapsody channels so connecting this unit to the computer was the best and cheapest way to do that.

My husband even took this one to work and they couldn't beleive the Altec Lansing was less than 30.00 since the sound is much better than the more expensive ipod mp3 players. He made some converts at work for sure. He hooks his Sansa Fuse to it and he gets fm radio at work too.

Do not waste your time or money on these speakers you are getting what you paid for them and that is not much.

 "Functions don't work on iPhone 3G" 2009-08-20
By Mark (Seattle, WA)
OK, if I had really dug around I would have noticed this before purchasing -- the volume controls don't work with the iPhone 3G (and according to the Apple page I have since discovered, neither does the mic input).

So it's more or less useless to me since the mic and volume control are the two useful features of having a headset with my iphone (I use it to listen to music on the bus, answer phone calls while walking, etc). This seems to be the standard Apple iPhone headset, at least that's available via Amazon -- yet its key features don't work for the largest portion of iPhone users?!

Stupid move by Apple. Avoid if you have a 3G. I know it's at the end of the details about the headset, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who might guess that the remote and mic might actually work on "Apple Earphones with Remote & Mic"
