"Not tickling every feature, but works great" 2009-09-28
By Martin McNamara (San Jose, CA)
I bought this as a drop-in replacement for an old radio in the family boat in order to get a front auxiliary input. I never really plan to use the HD Radio, Satellite or Ipod hookup in the boat, but I figured I'd get this model for the remote and so that it would be really useful if I decided to instead install it in one of our cars.

It sounds great and in limited use so far on the lake, it is working great. We've already got the boat winterized, so it won't get any serious use until next summer, but so far, so good.

 "Sony CDX-GT330 Review" 2009-09-12
By Frank (Minnesota)
Number One: Everything worked. We installed this car stereo ourselves in the cabin on our boat. It replaced an 11-year-old Clarion marine system that still worked but did not include a remote or an auxiliary input. The Sony wires were color-coded and to our great relief, matched the Clarion harness, so all we had to do was cut the Clarion plug off and splice in the Sony plug. Once that was done, we turned the system on and everything worked great. Number Two: Now we can listen to iPod music and to Pandora Radio from an iPhone, and I can control the system volume, fade, etc. (not the iPhone) from the helm, using the remote. The fade works great to move the sound fore and aft into the cabin or out in the cockpit or to provide equal sound all over the boat, depending on where we are. Further, the cabin speakers are positioned just right so now we can watch movies on a laptop at anchor with great stereo sound and with the picture in the middle. Of course the headphone jack on the laptop plugs right into the new Sony receiver just like an iPod or an MP3 player.Cables To Go - 21062 - 6ft 3.5mm M/M Stereo Audio Cable (Black) It all worked out just great. Number Three: To our pleasant surprise, the Sony also improved the quality of the sound coming from the existing Clarion speaker systems in the cockpit and the cabin. Eventually, we were planning to replace those speakers with better ones because, with the Clarion system, the sound was pretty flat and dominated by the midrange with brassy fatiguing highs and very little at the low end. With the Sony system, there is really no rush to replace the speakers. The low range is adequate and the high end cleared up and filled out enough that we can live with what we have. The cabin speakers really sound good; the cockpit speakers sound okay. Number Four: Amazon was the best place to buy. We researched a number of sources, all the familiar names, and Amazon had the best price plus free shipping. We buy from Amazon with confidence.

I have no complaints about this stereo. It looks and sounds great. I wish I had realized that I needed a separate satellite tuner, so I could have had them installed at the same time, but that was my fault.

"A good entry level car radio" 2009-05-25
By John L. Crane (Columbia, Mo.)
I installed this into my son's 1991 Geo and found it to be a excellent radio overall. The wiring manual was good but with the diagram you can wire it without worry. One bonus is that the wiring unplugs from the unit itself. By using an aftermarket electrical connector letting you solder leads on the workbench vs upside down cutting of the harness and splicing of wiring. tidy work even for newbies.

 "Sony CDX-GT330 Car CD/ MP3 Player" 2009-05-20
By captainK (Texas)
I just bought the Sony CDX-GT330 in dash AM/FM CD Player and I have good and bad.

Good:

Installation in a 1995 Ford Tauras was perfect and a snap when using a Metra 19-1770 wiring kit.(Get the equivalent at Walmart for $7). This will allow me to put the old stock radio back in when I sell the car. The RCA pre-outs are handy for a active Sub-woofer. The sound is excellent and the CD plays MP3 and WMA files.

Sounds great with a Jensen ALX2000 100 watt RMS bridgeable amp driving a 15" sub-woofer. The removable face plate is nice. The adjustable equalizer (sub-woofer too) is nice.

BAD:

The radio gets damn HOT on the back. I'm talking 140 degrees F (no telling how hot after it is crammed into the close quarters of the dash and the car is sitting in the sun. This thing may not last long, since it gets that hot (1yr warrantee). I utilized the rear screw hole to install an old computer heat sink and its still red hot. I wanted to run a computer cpu heat sink fan but there wasn't enough room in my dash.

The little un-lit red labeled features above the memory buttons cannot be seen at night.

The illumination is either ON or OFF......does not dim.

All in all, I would buy again at $80.

Recommended:

Yes

Amount Paid (US$): 80

Update 9/13/09:

It is still working perfectly, hot as ever. The only thing to add is that you must be careful to TURN IT OFF each time you leave the car to avoid battery drain. The sound is incredible with stock 1995 Ford Tauras speakers and my bridged 100 watt 15" sub-woofer in the trunk to "feel" the music!!

"Great stereo, especially for the price." 2009-11-10
By David J. Farley (Owensboro, KY)
I bought this stereo to replace a previous Sony stereo, so installation was a breeze. It was a "lower rung" model than the previous I purchased four years ago and was worried about sound quality suffering, but it did not. (Went from 5-band to 3-band Eq). 100 bucks for a faceplate USB & a 1/4" AUX-in on a reliable brand, good sounding stereo is a pretty good deal.

I bought this unit for really one purpose, the USB port for playing my iPod Touch through it. This particular feature works great. Seek time is quick, controls are pretty easy after a short learning curve. Setting it to "shuffle" is a little annoying (press "shuff" button then wait 3 seconds). That's probably my only "complaint about this unit. I haven't tried a thumb drive yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Summary:

Pros:

Sounds Great

USB works excellent w/ iPod

Navigation fairly easy

Can't beat the stereo for the price

Cons:

Shuffle not "instant"

Display not the slickest (but again, not a complaint at this price point)

"Constant Beeping is a Pain" 2009-11-07
By Alan G. Isemonger (Sacramento, CA, USA)
I bought this from a big box retailer, and generally I like it, the sound quality is decent and it reads the USB easily and without a fuss. The order of the tracks is less important to me than some other users. The buttons are also small I admit, but I knew that when I bought it. My biggest dislike is the beeping when you turn the vehicle off. You must remove the face plate or it beeps at you every time, and you cannot disable the feature. I have tried. I don't take my face plate out very often, as I live and work in secure areas, and the constant nanny beeping is hugely annoying. I would not buy this again, despite the fact that I respect Sony engineering.

"The best car receiver for under $100" 2009-11-05
By STELLER
Forget using an fm transmitter for playing an ipod in your car. This receiver has many features, is easy to use and sounds great! Big ups to sony for using the same wiring harness so replacement of my old xplod unit took me only 20 minutes! My only gripe is that sony does not provide a case for the head unit. If it is still available for $100 or less, go get it. If not, it would make a great gift!

"iPod Killer, Lousy Volume Control" 2009-11-02
By Stephen Mullany (Washington DC)
The first time I plugged my reconditioned iPod Classic into the USB port on this unit turned out to be the last: The hideous and inscrutable Sony "Explode" file system took over the iPod's own superior file system, played a couple minutes of music, then suddenly forced the iPod into a "charging, please wait" coma from which it never recovered, even after applying the most extreme recovery methods recommended by Apple. This iPod Classic had to be replaced at great inconvenience and eGear, the vendor, strongly recommended against connecting my replacement to the Sony again.

What happened? I cannot get Sony or Apple to admit to anything. I figure the USB port on this receiver, which delivers electrical power to the iPod by design, must have a flaw that allows it to deliver a deadly spike of power that is an iPod Killer. Connect the iPod to the analogue input AUX port instead.

The volume control on this receiver is very tricky to use, especially when you are driving: you have to steady your hand against the dash while rotating the volume nob or you will inadvertently push the nob and active other menus and it takes an awfully long time for the menu to revert back to volume control.

Great sound, tons of features!

Too bad you cannot change the tunning step to in FM tunning from 0.2 steps to 0.1 using the menus and no one from Sony seems to give a %$^&.

Sony support online/off-line really sucks!

when you talk to the representatives all they seem to know is how to read lines from the manual...

"Good Set of Portable Speakers" 2009-11-04
By D. Kehoe (Chicago, IL)
I purchased these speakers because I go to a handful of football games where I tailgate with friends and I was looking for a small portable speaker that I could transmit FM radio to from my phone - that means it was key that these can be operated by battery.

I've been pleased with these so far. I haven't put batteries in yet, but in my at-home testing I've been pleased. Ease of use is great. Pairing it with my phone was very simple...with the unit turned off just hold down 1 button for a few seconds and it enters pairing mode. From there I searched for it on my phone and voila, within seconds I was streaming music from my phone. I also used an audio cable (male to male) going from my MP3 player to these speakers using the "In" jack, and the result was just as good.

As for sound quality, these speakers won't blow you away. The quality is good, considering the price (around $50 or so). It doesn't sound overly "tinny" or scratchy as you increase volume. It can get quite loud, but as you approach max volume the quality noticably deteriorates - as expected...again, these aren't high-end speakers.

I got everything I paid for in these speakers, so I'm very pleased. For me they will only see occasional use, so if you are looking at these as a potential main speaker for music listening, you may want to consider spending more money to get a more complete audio system. But if you're in the market for something quick and easy with pretty decent sound quality and is extremely portable, I'd highly recommend these speakers.

"Great sound and extremely easy to set up." 2009-10-12
By B. Hansen
The Sony SRSBTM30 is an excellent product, and at $53.00, it's a great bargain. It took longer to open the packaging than it took to pair these speakers with my phone, and once the music started playing, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sound. The speakers have excellent range. Everything from Orff's "Carmina Burana" to Jimmy Durante's "As Time Goes By" to Queen's "We Will Rock You" sounded great. The build quality is excellent. The speakers have plenty of power with very good clarity at high volume. The elegant design allows the speakers to sit either horizontally or vertically. Power can be supplied either by batteries or by 100-240 VAC. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

 "Decent little speakers" 2009-10-06
By W. Schiebold (Harrisburg, PA)
These are decent little speakers for the money. Keep them at a reasonable level, and they sound pretty good. They carry a lot of bass, which makes them sound mucky sometimes, and the midrange is a bit muddled, but for what they are, they're a really good buy. Smaller than they look online, the bongos look is really kinda cool. The best thing about these is the portability and ease of operation. They were very easy to pair with my Samsung Eternity. The only problem I have is that whenever I go out of range or stop streaming for a while, the speakers disconnect and won't automatically reconnect. I have to go into the blutooth menu on my phone to reconnect them. Small thing, though. Decent speakers. I keep mine on top of the kitchen cabinets for easy tunes when I'm doing dishes.

"no vol control and too low for my devices" 2009-10-13
By jilla
There is no volume control or any other functions, you just plug your device in and it plays. No on/off button, either. I'm all for the simpler the better, but I need to be able to adjust the speaker's volume, they are way too low out of the box. Also, fyi it comes in that impossible plastic packaging where you need a box cutter, fencing gloves and nerves of steel to free your item. Also, my speakers also keep flopping over, it won't stand up like in the picture for more than a few seconds, I have to prop it against something. I can't use them for the purpose I bought them, so I tried them with my daughter's portable CD player to get rid of some of the wires, because not having a power cord is a real 5 star feature - but they are still way too low even for bed time lullibies. I have the volume all the way up on the CD player and the other speakers I have been using have to be on one of their lowest settings. So maybe I just got a dud Sony compact travel speaker - but it's junk.

 "Works as intended!!" 2009-09-12
By M. Santiago (Buford, GA)
I purchased this item and within minutes plugged it to my Sony receiver. Ipod fits snug and no chance of falling off. It's nice that it charges the player as well. At first music sounded boomy, but once I read the manual that came w/ the dock it explained how to change the settings in the Ipod for better sound. It works great and it's a welcomed addition to my home theater.

Just make sure that you have a Sony receiver that supports DMP (Digital Media Port) plug.

I would recommend to all.

 "iPod Cradle" 2009-07-11

I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. It works very well with my Sony HT-SS2300 Home Theater System and I can use the remote control to scroll thru my music on my iPod. You can't see the iPod menu on the T.V screen but I have seen some other models that do and I was not impressed, the menus looked old and out dated as if you were looking at an Atari system from the 80's. So if you just want to listen to music from your iPod it is worth it to buy this Cradle.

My son is thrilled with this. States that his Ipod fits better in this one than the origional one that came with the stereo. The price was the best I found on the web ( of course I consider shipping into the total cost of the item) So far so good. I would buy another one from here I needed to.

I recently did a sound system upgrade with a Sony STR-DG720 7.1 reciever. It has a proprietary DOXport plug versus a USB 2.0 Which I would have preferred. However, the TDM-iP10 comes with 6 different adapter plates for ALL ipod designs, past and present. The most intersting feature of this unit is that once you plug your ipod in, you can use your reciever's remote control to select, skip, pause, play on your ipod without touching it. Also, a digital signal is going from the ipod bottom plug so the signal is more clear versus using the head phone top jack. This is a must for anyone that has a Sony receiever and an ipod!

 "LOVE THIS!" 2009-08-12

I love this little gadget! I was buying the Sony Sound Bar for my Sonia Bravia TV and happened to see this accessory so I ordered it. I have an I-pod Touch (1st Gen) and got this particular one because it said you could watch your videos on the tv. Well this arrived yesterday (my sound bar is supposed to arrive today) and I hooked it directly to my tv and it worked perfectly! It took about 2 seconds and all I had to do was change the input on my tv to the Digital Media Port and it was good to go. I have a few videos that I purchased from I-Tunes that I had never seen any bigger than the screen of my I-pod but they were perfect on the 46" screen. I can't wait to hook up the sound bar tonight and see how my videos look and sound then!

"Great Sound but not a bedroom alarm clock" 2009-10-20
By P. Leon (Washington, DC United States)
Bought this so we could listen to NPR in the morning - recent changes in the DC radio stations started causing interference. Out of the box the radio is easy to set up and it found HD stations with the FM attena attached very well. However, the clock was so bright, even on the lowest dimmer setting, that it lit up the room - we eventually put a book in front of it so we could sleep. Also, it has no snooze button and only one alarm - hard if two people have different schedules. We gave it 4 days and returned it. This would be a great kitchen radio!

"Love the sound, but too complicated for a simple clock radio" 2009-09-25
By NoirOne (DC)
I love this FM/HD/Stereo clock radio, iPod player speaker system. The sound and the HD FM sound is one of the best considering its price point- approx $140. It rivals the Bose, in my opinion at more than half the price. You get very good separation in the stereo sound in a room the size of 12 x 12. I have never heard anything this good. I've looked at several and tested them in the store with my music on my iPhone. And if you have it sitting right in front of you, Wow!

As for the alarm clock part, it's not that easy to use, program and play. I like listening to radio in bed with the lights off. I find it difficult to find the right buttons to push in the dark. The remote is probably easier to feel the different buttons. To make change the radio stations, you really have to have memorized where everything is. You cannot navigate programming from the clock/radio itself without lights. Pre programed stations- yes it may work, but they are somewhere in the middle of the clock radio. Maybe I haven't had it long enough to remember. The clock is very bright and you will have to dime it a bit. That takes some effort

But the sound reproduction makes up for everything in my opinion. I would say that it stands alone just as an enhancer to the iPod. The HD radio in my metro area makes a difference from regular FM. Just by a cheap clock radio to wake up by.

"The Best HD Radio I have own (after my other Sony)" 2009-09-22
By C. Berrio (Hollywood, Florida United States)
This is my second Sony HD Radio that I own. The first one I got it for my house and this one (a year later) for my office. The look is amazing and the sound is magnificent for a small area. It work excellent with the Ipod. The control remote is very intuitive and can be fully controlled at the radio. Some people complained about the sound produced for the fan but in may case I do not hear it (I had to look the back to see it). The long extension cord with the transformer (some dubbed "Brick) can be hidden easily. Overall it is an excellent radio. I wish I could have more time in the day to listen to it.

"Works well, nice sound, ipod connectivity is seamless" 2009-09-13

I bought this radio primarily to listen to HD-radio, which works great - it reliably pulls in the signals with no glitches or dropouts. The only thing to keep in mind (which I assume is a general design constraint of HD-radio) is that it takes a few seconds to start playing HD-radio. The ipod connectivity works well, and it's nice to be able to control the ipod via the radio buttons and remote.

Great sound and good reception. I don't think you'll find a desk radio with any better and richer sound. Purchased this for my wifes' office.
