"Not tickling every feature, but works great" 2009-09-28
By Martin McNamara (San Jose, CA)
I bought this as a drop-in replacement for an old radio in the family boat in order to get a front auxiliary input. I never really plan to use the HD Radio, Satellite or Ipod hookup in the boat, but I figured I'd get this model for the remote and so that it would be really useful if I decided to instead install it in one of our cars.

It sounds great and in limited use so far on the lake, it is working great. We've already got the boat winterized, so it won't get any serious use until next summer, but so far, so good.

 "Sony CDX-GT330 Review" 2009-09-12
By Frank (Minnesota)
Number One: Everything worked. We installed this car stereo ourselves in the cabin on our boat. It replaced an 11-year-old Clarion marine system that still worked but did not include a remote or an auxiliary input. The Sony wires were color-coded and to our great relief, matched the Clarion harness, so all we had to do was cut the Clarion plug off and splice in the Sony plug. Once that was done, we turned the system on and everything worked great. Number Two: Now we can listen to iPod music and to Pandora Radio from an iPhone, and I can control the system volume, fade, etc. (not the iPhone) from the helm, using the remote. The fade works great to move the sound fore and aft into the cabin or out in the cockpit or to provide equal sound all over the boat, depending on where we are. Further, the cabin speakers are positioned just right so now we can watch movies on a laptop at anchor with great stereo sound and with the picture in the middle. Of course the headphone jack on the laptop plugs right into the new Sony receiver just like an iPod or an MP3 player.Cables To Go - 21062 - 6ft 3.5mm M/M Stereo Audio Cable (Black) It all worked out just great. Number Three: To our pleasant surprise, the Sony also improved the quality of the sound coming from the existing Clarion speaker systems in the cockpit and the cabin. Eventually, we were planning to replace those speakers with better ones because, with the Clarion system, the sound was pretty flat and dominated by the midrange with brassy fatiguing highs and very little at the low end. With the Sony system, there is really no rush to replace the speakers. The low range is adequate and the high end cleared up and filled out enough that we can live with what we have. The cabin speakers really sound good; the cockpit speakers sound okay. Number Four: Amazon was the best place to buy. We researched a number of sources, all the familiar names, and Amazon had the best price plus free shipping. We buy from Amazon with confidence.

I have no complaints about this stereo. It looks and sounds great. I wish I had realized that I needed a separate satellite tuner, so I could have had them installed at the same time, but that was my fault.

"A good entry level car radio" 2009-05-25
By John L. Crane (Columbia, Mo.)
I installed this into my son's 1991 Geo and found it to be a excellent radio overall. The wiring manual was good but with the diagram you can wire it without worry. One bonus is that the wiring unplugs from the unit itself. By using an aftermarket electrical connector letting you solder leads on the workbench vs upside down cutting of the harness and splicing of wiring. tidy work even for newbies.

 "Sony CDX-GT330 Car CD/ MP3 Player" 2009-05-20
By captainK (Texas)
I just bought the Sony CDX-GT330 in dash AM/FM CD Player and I have good and bad.

Good:

Installation in a 1995 Ford Tauras was perfect and a snap when using a Metra 19-1770 wiring kit.(Get the equivalent at Walmart for $7). This will allow me to put the old stock radio back in when I sell the car. The RCA pre-outs are handy for a active Sub-woofer. The sound is excellent and the CD plays MP3 and WMA files.

Sounds great with a Jensen ALX2000 100 watt RMS bridgeable amp driving a 15" sub-woofer. The removable face plate is nice. The adjustable equalizer (sub-woofer too) is nice.

BAD:

The radio gets damn HOT on the back. I'm talking 140 degrees F (no telling how hot after it is crammed into the close quarters of the dash and the car is sitting in the sun. This thing may not last long, since it gets that hot (1yr warrantee). I utilized the rear screw hole to install an old computer heat sink and its still red hot. I wanted to run a computer cpu heat sink fan but there wasn't enough room in my dash.

The little un-lit red labeled features above the memory buttons cannot be seen at night.

The illumination is either ON or OFF......does not dim.

All in all, I would buy again at $80.

Recommended:

Yes

Amount Paid (US$): 80

Update 9/13/09:

It is still working perfectly, hot as ever. The only thing to add is that you must be careful to TURN IT OFF each time you leave the car to avoid battery drain. The sound is incredible with stock 1995 Ford Tauras speakers and my bridged 100 watt 15" sub-woofer in the trunk to "feel" the music!!

"Clean & easy to use." 2009-09-13
By G. Flickinger (Lubbock TX)
I have finally installed this a few weeks ago. I was happy with how easy it is to install and wire up. The sound is good. Once you have all the settings programed and you are starting to get familiar with the controls. I found that I do not even have to look at the unit to change stations or inputs anymore. Also I prefer a knob for volume controls and it gives you good starting point to find the other controls by feel for those that prefer not to take their eyes off the road. Also the input variety is nice, I still have to try the ipod & usb inputs. Overall it is a clean unit that is easy to use.

 "Clarion CZ209" 2009-09-12
By T. Watson (Camarillo, CA United States)
It's OK - but not the best car stereo I've ever had. We got it because we wanted a USB interface to play songs from a thumb drive or ipod shuffle, and an AUX jack for other connections - and, it came recommended by a car audio guy who raved about it. It was a breeze to install. The sound is good, but not quite as good as our older Pioneer unit which it replaced. Most disappointing aspect: it will only play mp3s, not mp4s. Almost ALL of our digitally stored songs are mp4s. Fortunately the new version of iTunes has a "Convert to mp3" function now. Additional disappointment: our iPod shuffle (an older model) will not work via the USB connection. Fortunately, it can be played using the AUX port. So, not a total loss. The CZ209 manual suggests that only certain models of iPod will work, and refers you to the website for a list. I have scoured their website, which only carries the same reference, pointing to itself, without actually providing the promised information. If it's there, it's extremely well hidden. If I had it to do over again, I'd MAYBE get the CZ309 so I could at least play songs from my iTunes collection via USB from a thumb drive. But I think I'll live with the CZ209 for the time being. C'mon Clarion: post that list of compatible iPods you promised, so we will at least know which one to get when the time comes.

10/21/09 One more thing: I'd gotten pretty used to it, enjoying the sound (my PT Cruiser has a great set of speakers) and convenience of plugging my iPod Shuffle into the AUX port - that is until the unit inexplicably died. Yes, dead. It's not unplugged, nor have any fuses blown. It just suddenly died after less than 3 months.

I installed this stereo in my '71 Spitfire with some Kenwood speakers. The sound is great, even with just two rear speakers. I will be adding some front speakers sometime soon. There are tons of good features for the price, and I especially like the USB connection - I have put my music on a flash drive, and I don't have to mess with CD's or an MP3 player unless I want to.

 "Good for iPhones..." 2009-10-22
By A Big Fan of Theirs! (Colorado)
I bought this clock through Amazon and am happy with it. Each night I use the docking tray to charge my iPhone, where I can reach it on my bedside table. It's great not not to have any messy cords strewn around or chargers taking up space in my power outlets.

I have the Sirius Radio app on my iPhone and just realized that when you are tuned into it and place your phone on the charger, (duhhh) it automatically broadcasts the program you are listening to through the radio speaker. Maybe this would have been obvious to other users... but I discovered it by accident and consider it a great feature!

This is an attractive clock radio and I agree with most of the other positive reviews on this product. I'm planning to buy one for a friend (also an iPhone owner) for her birthday.

 "Not User-Friendly" 2009-10-08
By Music Geek (Kentucky)
As much as I love all the features on this unit, I can't figure out ANYTHING without studying the user's manual. I can't set the time, I can't set the alarm, I can't set the am/fm channels. The remote control is tiny, but useful.

I've had this for three days and I haven't set the alarm correctly yet. It's a little more lightweight and cheap feeling than I would have expected for a $100 radio.

I don't have a problem with the LCD glow on the face, as other's have complained about. The lowest setting (of course it took me about 10 minutes to figure out where the button was to adjust this) works just fine.

Eventually I will learn how to use this and not be so frustrated. I love that it has a dock for my iphone and ipod.

I bought this radio to replace one at my office and have been pleased with all of its options. I can use it to charge my iphone, play music from my ipod, or listen to the radio. The best thing for me has been the Audio In option. I have a small portable HD radio that gets the HD NPR channels that I attach with the Audio In plug and I can listen to HD channels through the radio. The sound is great, too.

This is an excellent product designed by Sony. It is very sleek and packed with all features (CD player, FM and iPod doc). I couldn't find all these three combination in any other brand. This has been my favorite bed side companion ! I purchased a couple of more of this and presented it to my mom, sister and others. I strongly recommend this item for use as Alarm and bedside music system.

 "Outstanding Device" 2009-10-16
By James Shannon Bussey (Mississippi)
This stereo is outstanding, period. The features that it has plus the ease of use makes this probably the best bluetooth stereo on the market. First of all the blue tooth is fantastic. Within seconds of getting in your vehicle and turning on the power, the stereo finds your phone and connects it automatically, whether you have it in a case, pocket, or whatever. Then your free to receive and make calls, listen to music or whatever. My number one concern would be whether it worked with the iphone? Well if that is you question, I can answer it for you. Yes it does. You can receive calls, make calls, and use voice control right from the receiver. There is no need to touch your phone.

Second it has a USB port on the front of the receiver. You can connect just about any device to it that has a USB. They say that you can connect the iphone for more control, but I am happy using it through the bluetooth. One thing I do love about the USB port is that you can listen to digital music with a thumb drive. Since my entire music collection is digital now, I just bought a big enough thumb drive to hold my collection, now I have my entire music collection on my vehicle stereo without carrying around one CD. You can control folders, files and names straight from the receiver. It will display the folder name, and the song name and artist on the receiver.

Now if you have a passenger in your car who doesn't have bluetooth or USB but wants you to listen to something on their MP3 player, this receiver has an auxillary port. Just plug your phone, MP3 player, or other device using the input and you are good to go

Being that it has so many features and controls, you will need to take a few minutes to learn how to operate all of the features. Once you do its a breeze. With these features and this price, you can't go wrong.

Oh it does have a CD player on it and I have listened to it to make sure it works, but there are so many other convenient ways to listen to music that you will forget all about CD's and the player.

 "Not Perfect for iPhone" 2009-08-10
By J. Boswell (Deep in the Ozarks)
It is very good unit and works with the iphone via usb cable for music and bluetooth for phone. The problem is that it does not seamlessly transition between these modes. I believe this will be corrected when the iphone can stream bluetooth music but this feature is not available yet. If the iphone is connected via cable the bluetooth connection will block the music. If the phone is connected without bluetooth and music comes from the iphone it will cut the music but you must answer the phone directly.

In all other ways this stereo met and exceeded my expectations. I was also very impressed with Crutchfield instructions. The installation went smoothly. It does play music from the iphone with very high fidelity. Handsfree seems to work well though I haven't tried it on the interstate.

"This and my iPhone 3GS...." 2009-08-09
By M. Nason
works flawlessly. Bluetooth pairing is automatic and immediate (seconds) after pairing for the first time. After pairing and while streaming wirelessly go ahead and plug in that USB to charge and control your iPhone through the radio as well as see the track being played.

I maxed this radio out with the SiriusConnect(tm) tuner and adapter package for Sony. (dumped my old plug and play) and yeah..... I'm loving that feature too! 18 FM and 18 SIRI presets along with my jailbroken iPhone tunes PLUS Slacker and I can drive to Austrailia without running out of fresh music!

The blue illumination is not as distracting as I have read in other reviews and my radio sits high on the dash. Nor is the computerized jingle/warning the radio emits when turning off the device.

Setup was a breeze even with my hitching up the Satellite Radio Package and Crutchfield Customer Service was very helpful with confirming my wiring hook up. Price here is excellent but you're going to need an in-dash receiver kit, vehicle specific wiring harness and most likely a DIN tool. Hence my one stop shop at Crutchfield. Oh and their Custom MasterSheet(tm) instructions are priceless!

 "Perfect with an Iphone/smartphone" 2009-07-22
By J. Hahn
I got this head unit because I got an iphone 3GS (previous iphone models do not have Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP)) and wanted something that would give me as many options of integrating it with the car stereo as possible without spending a ton of money. I also didn't want to have to pay extra for the bluetooth attachments that you have to add on to the bluetooth ready head units.

-BLUETOOTH AUDIO STREAMING

The audio bluetooth streaming is great sound quality is very good (I am not a picky audiophile so can't say if sensitive ears would notice anything wrong with the quality), I actually listen to local radio stations through their internet streams through the iphone then bluetoothed to the car stereo because its better sound quality then what I get out of the tuner (any tuner not just this one, I live in a bad radio reception area between 2 markets). The stereo usually picks up my phone (for both phone and audio) within 30 seconds of turning on the car. I have had to reset the bluetooth (takes about 20 seconds, push one button twice) every few weeks because it will start to get skippy but it is a pretty minor inconvenience. Listening to Pandora through the Iphone to the car stereo is awesome, and has greatly improved my commute.

-Bluetooth Phone connection

Connects within 30 seconds of starting the car. Sound quality is good. And the microphone that is built in actually works well, this shocked me I was sure I would have to either yell or buy an external mic but the one that comes in the head unit picks up my voice fine I have not had a complaint about people on the other end of the call not being able to hear me. Another good thing about the mic being built in is that it saved me $60 on the installation that they would have charged me to install an external mic. The transition between phone call and what was playing before the call is automatic and fluid.

-USB input

I have not gotten a chance to use this because the bluetooth has worked well. It would be nice if it had a USB on the back of the unit in addition to the one on the front so that you could run a wire hidden behind the console plastic and have it connect where ever you wanted it to without it cluttering up the car (that is the main reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars).

Overall I love this unit because it was fairly cheap and it does exactly what I wanted it to do in respect to integrating with my Iphone.

I wanted a compact boombox for CD playing and radio listening. (I don't need to attach an IPod.) The sound is clear and crisp, with tweaking of the telescoping antenna. Also wanted a white box, for decorative reasons. My only complaint is that the FM tuner doiesn't seem to scan automatically to the next station, unless I'm not operating it properly. But it is fine for the price -but don't expect the superior sound of more sophisticated models.

"Looks good but it doesn't work" 2009-09-23
By Virginia Perrine (Philadelphia, PA)
This iPod boombox is small, lightweight and looks like a great solution for broadcasting your iPod through speakers. That's where it ends. I bought this and received it the day before a big neighborhood party at my house. I tested it out the day I received it and it worked fine. When I went to use it the next day (the day of the party), the music would keep cutting out at random times and wouldn't start up again unless I pressed Stop and then Play again.

How frustrating! It would only play for 10-15 minutes at a time and then cut out completely. I even tested my iPod with my computer and a small set of portable speakers to see if my iPod was the problem - it wasn't! I'm hoping it's not too late to return this item - don't waste your money!

I found the product and features as expected, and was able install for Corolla-2000 in couple of hours. It needed a harness adapter to connect Kenwood radio to car's audio cables, that has to be bought separately (about 10$). If the car is older, it might need full install kit (around 22$).

Operating was not difficult, but took a while to figure out that, press and hold SRC to switch it off.

Couple of things I didn't like is about the display, it keeps scrolling can become distracting in the night. Another thing about display is, cannot read it when

sun falls at certain angles.

Needless to say, to activate Bluetooth/HD Radio need separate Kenwood devices that are not cheap.

 "Very happy!" 2009-09-24

I have a 2005 Outback with the stock cd player. I needed something to play my itouch so I did a search on updating my stock player. I found only one site who offered an dash adapter kit for my car which was Crutchfield. I checked with BestBuy to see if I bought a cd player from them if they could install it. They were unable to get the adapter kit so when I went back to Crutchfield I found that they offered the Kenwood KDC-MP342U plus threw in the adapter kit, harness kit, instructions, antenna adapter and shipping for FREE!

I am totally THRILLED with the Kenwood KDC-MP342U!! I never felt my car seat vibrate using the stock stereo. It has great power and sound. The itouch works perfectly with it and even charges it while the tuner displays the name of the song and artist. The tuner can even be set up to play the songs randomly. I'm looking to see if I can find a great price on the bluetooth adapter for my phone then I'll be adding that.

Now I want to buy one for my husband's truck. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't play my Zune through the USB port but I can attach it to the aux port and still plug it into the USB slot to charge it. Once we've installed the Kenwood KDC-MP342U in my husband's truck I will hand the Zune over to him for all of his music.

The installation was very easy and the radio works and looks very nice. I must change my speakers because this radio generates a lot of power, I like that. Looks great especially at night. Check this site: [...]

 "Great little car radio" 2009-09-18
By Trillum (Portland OR)
We purchased this in July for a road trip. We didn't want to spend a fortune and we wanted it to be user friendly to use. We went to Best Buy to actually try them out after reading reviews from other folks. We are older so we wanted something that we could see well in the dark but wasn't distracting. We wanted it to be easy to use when we are driving too. We also wanted to plug our mp3 players into it if we drove into areas that didn't have much to offer on the radio. After looking at several it was a no brainer it was this one hands down. We liked the blue colored display and the easy presets and volume control. It also has a usb connection so we can charge our mp3 players when we aren't playing them. There is a cd player but we don't use it that much if at all since it is easier to hook up the mp3 player then sifting through the cds one at a time. We were in a hurry so we bought it at Best Buy for 139.00 which included tax of 11.48. If we had time I would have shopped for a better price. Without tax here on Amazon with s&h it is I think $113.00 which is a much better deal. Also one note about installation. We had all the harnesses from previous older radio ready to go. But this unit requires that it be hooked to the battery because it has this internal clock. Ours already had the wiring right but at some point we had removed a fuse or maybe never had a fuse in this slot in the truck before. That fuse was important for this new radio to work. I posted to a truck forum and learned where I needed to add a fuse to get the clock and the radio working. I had never installed one before, just took the old one out so it took me some time to figure it out but really if I as a housewife can figure it out then anyone can do it. It sounds great and we didn't spend a fortune. We had a Kenwood before that we liked and had died after several years but we were open to any brand but we ended up with this particular Kenwood.

This CD player from kenwood is a good quailty player, with good audio at cheap price. Also nice it is setup for ipods and mp3's, as well as satellite & bluetooth if you have them. I just installed it in my truck the other night. It works great and sounds wonderful. It was very easy to install and looks sharp. I'm glad I bought it, I just realized that now I need to get new speakers.
