Amazon.com Product Description--Posted October 14, 2008 With its well-regarded inMotion system, Altec Lansing has raised the bar again with the iM600. Featuring a myriad of new technologies, the iM600 offers big, crystal-clear sound, and it folds up compactly for easy portability.

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM600:
  • offers incredible musicality and clarity with deep bass;
  • folds up compactly to offer great portability;
  • provides a dock for your iPod, charging it while playing music; and
  • features a built-in FM tuner.

With Expanded Sound Stage technology, the speakers sound further apart than they really are for a bigger soundstage. View larger. View Remote.
Superior Sound in a Small Package
Employing dual two-inch neodymium drivers that are optimized for high-frequency sound, the iM600 offers unmatched musicality and clarity. Despite its compact size, the bass is punchy and has good extension, and with Altec Lansing's Expanded Sound Stage (ESS) technology, the speakers will sound further apart than they actually are, for a greater stereophonic image.

Elegant Design Matches the iPod
The iM600 sports a distinctive thin and elegant glossy-black look. A spring-loaded button deploys the speaker's stand and reveals the iPod dock, power button, and volume controls.

Your iPod perches front and center, resting at an angle to display the current track information and album art while recharging. If your iPod model has the alarm clock and sleep timer features, they will work seamlessly with the iM600.

Various docking adapters are included, making the iM600 compatible with most iPods. Also, an auxiliary input lets you connect any CD, DVD, or MP3 player using a stereo mini-plug.

Built-in FM Tuner
If you get bored with the songs on your iPod, the iM600 has a built-in FM tuner, letting you listen to your favorite music and talk radio. Near the top of the unit is an LCD that displays the current FM frequency; buttons on top provide tuning controls. The tuner also features a memory for four presets and a telescoping antenna for better reception.

Change the Music from Across the Room
A small remote control is included, letting you change the musical selection from across the room. A storage slot built into the system itself makes it easy to store the remote, preventing you from losing it behind couch cushions and other inconvenient places.

Take Your Music To-Go
With a compact size that folds closed to a mere 11 x 1.7 x 6 inches (W x D x H), and weighing only 2.1 pounds, the iM600 is easy to take with you to the beach, on vacation, or wherever you else you're going. The built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery lets you listen to more than 7 hours of continuous play. An AC adapter is included for connected listening and recharging the battery.

The Altec Lansing iM600 is backed by a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
iM600 speaker system, wireless remote, iPod docking adapters, power supply, user's guide and quick connect instructions.

The iM600 will provide enough big sound to keep your party rocking.

"Great product at this price point" 2009-10-02
By El Gacho (Texas, USA)
When searching for a sound dock, it came down to this or the bose dock. I decided that the bose was not worth the extra $$$. I have owned the product for 2 years now and it is working great. Sounds great and has nice base. The pros: great sound, good price point, light weight. The cons: does not charge iphone, does not have AM.

"Great for iPod Touch 2nd Generation" 2009-10-01
By Shirl (Ia.)
We were looking for an attractive portable device with a decent quality speaker system. We tried this item and it's competition the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2. The Altec Lansing looks attractive in our home and doesn't take up much space compared to the longer Logitech. We had both systems in the same room and had others give their opinion by playing the same music on each without their knowing which device we were using. They picked the Altac Lansing each time. We all agreed this performed better all the way around. Some have commented they can't fit their iPod into the slot. We are not using any of the inserts supplied just place it on the slot without, no problem. You do have to watch as you insert it that it is over the prongs correctly. I have a plastic protective backing on my iPod and I do not have to remove it to get it to work. We like the fact that it also includes an FM radio as well. It's been great in the house, on our deck/patio and for travel. The newer version came out a couple weeks after we purchased this one. The added features look great but we like the looks of this better. It would be nice to have a remote that includes more and a handle but it costs more. The shiny plastic does show finger prints but I try to handle it carefully to avoid that. The remote is small but works. Wish it came with a case like the Logitech. For the price range and our use this is the best! It also charges your iPod when plugged in and can be used for an alarm, especially nice when away from home. If you want a Bose sound, then you need to move up in price. We have had this for several months and so far so good. We got a 2 year warranty and by that time newer products will be out.

Works well, good value for the money. Bass is weak but what you would expect from such small speakers.

Just wanted to mention, It's nice looking. Very stylish and the sound is very good for my ears. I know someone who has owned this portable audio system for about 2 years and its still works and sounds like new.

Great portability and travel case. Good sound for the size, however it would be nice to be able to control the bass/treble functions.

"Not exactly the item that was advertised" 2009-09-23
By R. Mesina (CA)
According to the website, it's suppposed to charge any of the ipods (including ipod touch) while it is docked, it doesn't. I ended up returning it, as I really needed it to charge. I also had a problem with shipping. I had paid $7 in shipping when I ordered this item, I then got a postcard from the post office the shipping is due, apparently, the vendor did not pay the proper amount of shipping, so I had to pay an extra $7 to pick up the item. I emailed the vendor and they said they will reimburse me for the shipping, but I never saw the money.

The item did not work out and I ended up paying $11 to ship it back. The vendor refunded me the $$, less the shipping I paid and they didn't. So, I'm out $25 for shipping and the item was $24. It's not worth the hassle for me to get my $7 back. Will never order from these people again.

 "Portable IPod speaker" 2009-09-20
By N. Tuccillo (St Marys, GA)
The iM11 inMotion speakers are just what I was looking for. I teach classes and use music in them, and go from location to location. It's easy to travel with. It has more volume control which I needed. You do have to be careful not to hit the On/Off button after you have put it back in the carry case. I use the battery power and it does fine. The cord is a good back up if my batteries wear down.

The sound is somewhat tingy and fairly low in quality. It does the job, however.

In the future, I will stick with higher quality sound systems.

"Small box, big sound, nice price - does most of what I need, but will not charge my iPod touch" 2009-09-11
By Nathan Andersen (Florida)
My wife and I bought this for a simple, inexpensive, portable, way to listen to the music on our iPods at home. We weren't looking for a booming stereo sound, and didn't expect a miracle in quality. We got exactly what we wanted. The sound is big enough and loud enough to fill a small room - probably not enough sound to run a house party, and certainly not enough to make the windows shake, but enough to give a bit of atmosphere and enjoyment. The bass, of course, is weak but for alternative and indie rock and pop, jazz and classical, which is mostly what we listen to, the sound is adequate and faithful. It's certainly beats the more tinny and less expansive sound we get from our MacBook Laptop.

You can power it with 4 AA batteries or a plug. It folds up neatly and fits nicely in an included pouch, and then you can press a button that opens up the iPod mount and a stabilizing base. It's a simple design, with just a power on/off button, a sliding volume switch, and the iPod mount. To adjust any of the levels or sound balance, you've got to use whatever controls are installed on your iPod. We've used this with an iPod nano (3rd generation), which it charges directly, and also with an iPod touch, which it won't charge, but will interface with to play music. A good, inexpensive, portable stereo player for your iPod.

 "Altec Lansing InMotion Max" 2009-10-19
By Brian (Boston, MA)
This is a nice looking, nice sounding speaker system that charges your ipod/phone. I had to return the first one I purchased, it simply stopped working one day, mid-song. The second one hasn't crashed on me yet (I've had it for a month) but sometimes, the down volume control turns the sound up, which can be frustrating. It's also kind of touchy---the on/off switch sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Just a quirky, glitchy item. If it weren't for the features it offers and the sound quality, I'd call it a lemon.

 "Good Buy Good Quality" 2009-10-04
By Debbie Thompson (Toronto Canada)
I had been looking for a speakers to use on my deck, when someone suggested ths type of system. As it turns out this was the right choice for me. Although you can turn up the volume quite high, it does start to get a little distorted. My only real dislike is the battery life is only 3 hours, and the fittings for the various types of idpods are not labeled which was kind of annoying when you are switching ipods around. You know how when you are having a gathering everyone wants you to hear a song on their ipod!

Overall, I like it. Especially since its compact enough to travel with... It fits neatly in my lap top case.

Not disappointed, pretty good sound!

 "Perfect!!" 2009-09-09

Great kitchen radio. Sleek design really works. Sound quality is fine. If you are looking for that "Bose quality sound", go buy a bose. This is a great buy.

 "Bob" 2009-09-08
By Robert B. Carlson
I'll start our by saying that I was trying to save money vs the Bose which I know to be a quality product. I was happy with this product for the first day. I liked the additional features such as radio & clock not offered by the Bose.

But the Altec did not turn on the second day - it just would not turn on - crazy. So I returned this product & purchased a Boston Acoustic model which had the same features. I was happy with the Boston for the first day & the second day the volume control did not work. I returned it. I then just ponied up the extra money for the Bose & it is perfect.

no clock or radio but works great for my iPod.

"Altec Lansing a complete bust" 2009-09-04
By David B. Wisdom (Dallas, TX USA)
I did a lot of research, but in the end went with a recommendation from a friend who had heard good things about this brand. I had it for 1 month and liked it initially, but then it stopped working. It would not take a charge, the speakers would pop, it might work for one or two songs, then mess up again. I sent it back and exchanged it for another of the same model and in 1 week that model was doing the same thing. I ended up returning it and getting a Kicker I-kick and have been extremely impressed. Much better sound with better bass and more volume. Only problem is it does not have a rechargable battery.

 "Great iPOD dock" 2009-09-19
By Y. Puar (Calif. USA)
The Altec Lansinc inMotioniM600 is a great iPod dock! The sound is great, I love the sleek design, and the the remote is an extra bonus. I'm surprised such a small, sleek machines can put out such great sound. I originally bought a smaller dock from Cyber Accoustics but returned it -- was not happy with it at all. So I spent more on the iM600, but it is well worth it.

By Jay L. Palmer
The sound quality is really poor. Right out of the box it sounds like it has a blown speaker, but it's jsut thtat it has really poor bass responce. The iPod jack worked for about two weeks, now it wont play iPods any more, the same thing happened to my Dads.

Now I have an expencive rechargable radio with a remote that has really poor sound. I wouldn't recommend this product to anybody.

This is our 2nd purchase of the iM600. The 1st one sounded great but was accidentally knocked over and stopped functioning. We're taking a second chance with the knowledge that the durability leaves much to be desired, but you can't beat the price.

 "bad fm reception" 2009-09-16
By Joshua D. Streblow (Carbondale, CO)
I ordered this unit mainly because it had a fm receiver. The fm receiver was not able to pick up any stations unless you held the antenna. Sound quality was good, but I am still looking for a Ipod speaker system with fm that looks and sounds good.
