How it Works
You'll notice how smoothly and easily VoiceOver works. A lot of thought went into creating an iPod nano that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod nano. First, iTunes reads your song information, then uses the VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists. Just sync your iPod nano to your computer and it really speaks to you.
It Speaks Multiple Languages
Your music library has songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks fluent song.
iTunes selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol� by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod nano will automatically speak that song title and artist in Spanish. If you prefer to hear that information spoken in another language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language for that song in iTunes.

The video camera is a neat upgrade to the Nano. Very easy to use, and about the smallest way I've seen to carry a video camera for quick vid capture.
It seems that each generation they come out with some good, new features. While small, the Nano has a great screen and is good for travelers. Watching a movie on it may not be ideal, but it's much better than lugging a laptop, netbook, etc onto a plane. And the screen is quite an upgrade over the 3rd gen Nano.
The sound quality continues to be great as it has with all ipods that I've owned.

I really like this ipod, having the radio on it is a big step up. The video camera is nice also; however, I wish it would take pictures. The only complaint I have about it so far is the battery doesn't seem to last nearly as long as the older ipod nanos.

After 5 months of limited and careful use, my wife's 5th generation 16G iPod Nano froze up and stopped working. When she took it to the Apple Store, she was told it had "liquid damage" and that isn't covered by the warranty. I purchased the extended protection plan because her 1st generation Nano died the same way, so I thought I was being smart. They offered her a replacement at 1/2 price and she took the offer before consulting me. This unit has not been exposed to any situations that could possibly lead to "liquid damage" but the store manager stuck to the assessment when I called to complain. Before I called, I researched the "liquid damage" issue online and saw that this matter is VERY common and Apple's response is always the same. It would seem there are larger issues that Apple is hiding and the "liquid damage" diagnosis is their way to avoid owning up to the problems. Not only is this the last Apple ANYTHING I will purchase, but I have already filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and will warn as many potential victims from making the same mistakes we did.
We are out the original $233 plus $95 more for the replacement PLUS the time we've invested trying to get Apple do the right thing. Never again!

The nano has a nice capacity but it is very difficult to download music and get playlists. Everything has to go through itunes which is a pain in the neck.

I love it and the new features including the speaker in the IPOD are terrific. I just wish they made the capacity larger than 16 GIGs
