 "Superb Product" 2009-08-28

I can't understand why this product is currently on the discontinued list. The product works flawlessly and as a bonus, it transmits much further than any other product of its kind. We are able to broadcast the ipod from the car, while receiving on our camping trailer fm radio/stereo system as well as our portable for up to 100 feet away. I LOVE this product!

 "exceeds expectations by far" 2009-08-27
By L. Hurley (Arizona)
having heard a number of warnings about so-so sound, interference, etc I didn't expect much, but for 15 bucks figured it was worth a shot. Mostly I just wanted to catch up on podcasts so quality wasn't the prime driver anyway. I was very pleasantly surprised. Setup was a breeze, and I'd rate sound as very good, even on music. I get zero interference. It just works.

I got this product couple of weeks back and it working as how i wanted it to be. Basically i got it so that i can connect this to my computer and listen to music in my Hi Fi system and it is working great!!.

Only thing noticeable is that i cannot use if across rooms as range of the transmitter is low otherwise it is a great product.

 "A Huge Disappointment" 2009-08-08
By W. Middlecamp (Apple Valley, MN USA)
Seriously, even at $15, it's not worth it. This is just junk.

I tested it in three different cars and with my home stereo, and across the spectrum of the FM band. Signal strength is not a problem, but the quality of the sound is pitiful. FM radios used to have a mono selection for when the stereo signal was weak, and that got rid of a lot of the noise at the cost of losing the stereo. This sound quality is like bad FM stereo.

"Works well most of the time" 2009-10-06
By Ryan P. Brosseau
This unit works really well, with 4.5/5 sound quality where I live. But where I live doesn't have many radio stations, so the FM transmitter has it's pick of the litter as far as broadcast signals are concerned. However, while traveling towards an area with a lot more radio stations, naturally the choice of stations for the Griffin to broadcast to diminish. This becomes and issue when the FM dial is literally saturated with signals thus making the Griffin FM transmitter useless. The sound quality fades from great to slight static to complete loss of signal.

Bottom line: The cradle and charging features of this item are fantastic. However if you live in an area that has little radio choices and lots of empty frequencies on your FM dial, this thing is awesome. If you live in an area with a lot of FM radio choices on your dial, a direct connection is the only way to go.

BTW this thing does have a direct connection port, but our car does not.

 "works fine for me" 2009-09-14
By Domenic Benedetti (Lagrangeville NY)
I read all the reviews on this thing before buying it, what the heck for $65.00 I took a chance and ordered it. I'm very satisfied with it. Sometimes the hissing sound that some reviewers found to be a nuisance hasn't bothered me, it only occurs when you hit weak spots in the listening area of where you live. I reside in the northern NYC suburbs (about 60 miles north). I found plenty of empty stations and the music is clear and I recomment this item highly.

 "Pleasantly Surprised" 2009-09-04
By S. Kirstein (Holliston, MA USA)
It's always difficult making a buying decision on FM Transmitters. No one REALLY likes them - they'd much rather have a direct connection to their amp/sound system. But when you can't do that, you have to consider an FM Transmitter.

I was pleasantly surprised by the RoadTrip - the sound quality and signal strength were better than the previous, more traditional "module+long cord" unit I had been using - and it has the benefit of eliminating the long cords which tangled around my gear shift and dash controls.

The 'gooseneck' has been solid thus far (1 month of use) and it makes for a slick, OEM-like appearance.

While the "find the open frequencies" function didn't always find actual open frequencies with all three "guesses", two of them were, in fact, open - so it was a relative plus.

At <$65, this was a relative bargain and a recommended purchase.

"Elegant execution of an clunky idea." 2009-08-30
By Dr. Jupitor Von Bron
Your mileage may vary on your reception. I live and drive all around Los Angeles, and I got great reception with this device, especially because of its ability to automatically pick an empty frequency, which worked well for me. I really liked the design. At first I was worried the gooseneck would be flimsy and not hold its shape, or the ipod grip would drop my phone, but no, it's sturdy, grips your iPhone/iPod well, and yes, it'll probably bounce a little too much as you drive, but it seems that's a given, it does plug in to your cigarette lighter and has no other support. I really liked how there were tactile buttons on it so you could skip tracks, I ended up using this feature a lot when I drive. Another great feature is that you could tilt your iPhone into landscape mode and use cover flow for track selection, which works fabulously when you're driving. I can't imagine someone else making a substantially better FM transmitter than this... face it, using an FM transmitter is a clunky idea meant to spare you the money it takes to a new sound system into. your car. It's not going to work flawlessly, and sometimes it'll be downright crappy depending on the area. But that's the nature of the beast. So if you want an ipod or iphone transmitter, you can't go wrong with the Roadtrip FM. My only major gripe is the price. This thing can't be more than 20 bucks worth of parts and technology. The fact that it sells for north of $60 is startling.

 "Doesn't work" 2009-09-30
By Kim Coffey (Australia)
After having my old $17.95 charger transmitter stolen from my car I replaced with this one. It was lost in transit, finally when it turned up, plugged it in with my IPOD touch and the screen said charging not supported on this accessary. Grrr had just returned another one that didn't charge. Nothing on the web page or booklet in the box says anything about not being charge compatible with some models. Why would anyone buy a car Ipod player without a charger? Also get a whurring sound when going through the gears coming through the speakers. Volume is low as well. So over buying on the net. Would rather touch feel smell so you get what you pay for.

This is a simple to use transmitter. It is a little awkwardly placed due to the location of the lighter outlet in my dash, but still in a perfectly workable position. Fights station traffic well.

 "Great little iPod device" 2009-09-07
By Shaun K. Devine (Cayman Islands)
The item arrived in some rather 'below par' packaging which led me to believe that the item was not brand new and had to visit the item's web-site for any details and instructions.

However, the Griffin RoadTrip has worked excellent since it's arrival and with minimal backround 'whizzing' in time with the revs - which is usually identified with such devices.

The assortment of power plug and extensions meant that i could find a snug fit for the device in the car (Land Rover Discovery II) and the i-Pod (4th gen 30g w/ video) slots into the device like it should.

So, a very good purchase and very much recommended for the car, with the added bonus that the LCD transmitter can un-plug from the device and be used in the home / hotel etc (haven't used this yet as I have a i-Home and other direct connections for my stereo)
