 "Worth shopping around..." 2009-09-28

These were one of the best that I have experienced, BUT...they pop-out at any given time without notice. Definitely should look at other products, still under the same name of Philips for the ones that have an attached headset then you are good to go!

"Many Beefs with these headphones" 2009-09-20
By Marcus T. Brody (Tampa Bay, FL)
First off, I bought these headphones at Target for $29.99, then I come on here and see they're 1/2 the price. Figures.

Anyway, the noise cancelling effects of the headphones are good for a cheap headphone. But other than that, that's about the only benefit I see. The sound is weak -- weaker than the stock headphones for my Zune player. The bass is pretty good, but the midrange sounds very odd, almost as if the sound is traveling through a portal or something. Not good.

Secondly, the cord is irregularly shaped, which is VERY annoying. The Right side is about 6 inches longer than the Left side, which constantly leads to me ripping the cord out of my MP3 player while at the gym. It became so frustrating (after happening 3x within 15 mins) that I angrily threw the headphones in the garbage. That was the end of them!

So in closing, they don't sound good, the cord is terribly annoying, but the noise cancelling effect is pretty good for a $20 headphone.

Great sound quality. I've used these headphones for over three years. If they break after a couple years, they're low-priced to replace.

"Defective, Bad Customer Service, Save Your Money!" 2009-09-21
By MusicJunkie (Minneapolis, MN)
I ordered one of these new via another website. The Ipod dock and radio were fine, but the CD player wouldn't work. Also the display sometimes lags when you're scrolling through the various input source options. I called Philips and had a very pleasant customer service experience, but when I received the replacement today, there were major problems. Not only was the CD player defective in the exact same way, but the replacement was so poorly packed by the company that the unit had irreparable damage to the antenna input. I have been informed that my only options are replacement with an identical model or refund of purchase price. I got rid of a bunch of other stereo stuff, intending this to be a space-saving replacement, but the deal I got on it initially means that the refund won't actually cover the cost of getting something else, meaning I've lost everything.

The person in the replacements department told me they've had a lot of complaints about packaging of replacements. My advice is to avoid this bran altogether.

 "Junk" 2009-09-19
By Boo Radley (USA)
This thing is awful. Sounds terrible, both CDs and iPod. Shockingly so. At first I thought I had set it up wrong somehow, but no.

We did a side-by-side test with my kid's $20 CD box (which is 3 years old, by the way) and the boom box won, hands down. Music from this thing sounds canned, no dynamic range, no depth, like an AM radio almost. The optional bass boost only amplifies the suck.

[...].

I don't know any executives who would settle for a product so lousy. They should call it Micro Sound.

Don't waste your time or money on this junk.

"Great sound, but USB feature does not work" 2009-09-17
By Corvidae (Pittsburgh, PA)
I was very impressed with the sound of the device and the list of features, but unfortunately, one of those features does not work. When connecting a USB drive to the device, it would only play about 3 out of the first 15 I tried. Future tests with different files yielded the similar results. They were all regular MP3 files. I don't know if this is a common thing or if my unit is defective.

------------------------

Other things of note:

Even a properly functioning device will not play AAC files, which is something to consider if you have many songs in your library ripped or imported from iTunes.

New iPods, such as the 4th and 5th generation Nanos are not compatible since Apples changed the charging plug from Firewire/USB to just USB. They will play, but not charge.

------------------------

I feel bad for giving it one star since it blows the iHome out of the water, but if you have a feature advertise it better well work. If the MP3/USB function worked I'd give it a 3.5 or 4.

"Ipod functionality could be improved, but overall a good product." 2009-09-05
By LoveableLion (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I bought this product because it was one of the only ipod docks that had a radio AND a cd player. Although I'm happy with all three functions this unit lacks one major function; the ability to control the ipod with the remote!

A few things I like:

-It remembers what the last thing you played on it is so if you played the ipod last that is what it will play when you power it on.

-The radio stations and clock are very easy to set and it holds up to 20 stations which in Los Angeles is crucial!

-It sounds GREAT! You wouldn't think such rich sound could come out of such a little box! There is also bass boost and the ability to adjust the EQ (4 presets) for improved sound.

A few things I don't like:

-You can't control the ipod with the remote, only the buttons on the dock. That sucks.

-There is no way to dim the LCD and it is a little bright for a bedroom at night.

-When you turn the unit off with an ipod docked it continues to charge it, even if it doesn't need to be charged.

Overall I like the product and would recommend it, especially for the price and the fact that it includes all three of the functions you really need to listen to music today. I just couldn't bring myself to a buy a unit that didn't have a cd player. Sometimes I do like to own them and it would be such a pain to have to go and burn it and synch my ipod before I could listen to my new music, or have to have a separate cd player altogether just to hear it. I'm not happy about the remote not working with the ipod but I'll get over it eventually.

 "great product" 2009-08-20
By H. Smith (Huntington, WV)
This product first caught my eye because of it's design. And I was sold on it when I heard the sound quality. It's easy to use, and I haven't had any problems with it. The remote is very handy and has every button I'd ever need.

I'd definitely recommend this product if you're looking for something a little nicer than the ihome brand and cheaper than a bose system.

 "Good feature,but risky" 2009-09-16
By Kurniaty Candakentjana (Phila,PA)
I bought this product to replaced my old Philip portable DVD and usually being used by my 5,5 yrs old daughter. The features of the product are pretty good (ipod docking. But, there's no cover on the monitor kind of worry me, because it can be broke easily, and it should stand really in perfect shape otherwise the monitor will look black,so for me this product not as perfect as I expected.Just OK.

"Will not work with Touch G2" 2009-09-14
By Tracy Bedenbaugh (Columbia, SC)
Looked everywhere to try and find out if this would work for the touch G2. Lots of good reviews, but nothing specicfic about the G2. Talked to Philips customer support twice before being told that it would not work with my touch. Works great with DVD's and my Nano.

 "Great idea, mediocre execution" 2009-09-13
By Jonkehote (Studio City, California United States)
The picture is good. It's easy to use, my 3yr old knew his way around it in minutes. Works with all ipods. Interface is mediocre, unattractive and slow. Heaven forbid you need to find a song that's not on a playlist...it takes forever. Don't get me wrong, I do recommend this product if you are pretty computer saavy. I filled a 5g ipod with something like 50 movies and tv shows...battery ran out long before kid's patience did. BIGGEST COMPLAINT - ON/OFF BUTTON IS EXTREMELY SENSITIVE. HAD THE PLAYER IN MY CARRY ON BAG, TOOK IT OUT HALFWAY THROUGH A FLIGHT AND THE BATTERY WAS ALMOST DEAD BECAUSE IT HAD TURNED ON INSIDE MY BAG. It's easy to hook up to a tv so that's great but I haven't figured out a way to have the picture come only through the tv so the picture is going on two screens. Somewhere between funky and annoying. Latch on ipod door broke after about 5 uses.

PROS - Great price, easy to use, works with almost all ipods. Good picture. Two headphone jacks.

CONS - Clunky interface, mediocre battery life, SUPER-SENSITIVE ON/OFF SWITCH, no way to shut off monitor when running through an external tv, low build quality.

My overall experience with Philips products has been like this - Great design/Mediocre execution
