I bought this in a gamble to see if it would be compatible with my new nano 5g. It's not. I do still have a nano 3g, so I thought I'd use it with the old one. No big deal, right? But no, the sound quality is so bad, that I just had to return it. I know that FM transmitters will never have good quality sound, but compared to my old DLO FM transmitter, iTrip is garbage. DLO has a big cradle that's attached to the cigarette lighter, which is why I wanted an iTrip. But I think I'll stick with the DLO.

Used it for the first time today in Manhattan and New Jersey. After a few dodgy channels, found a couple that work pretty well in the City. In some cases they even overpowered some lesser radio stations in the area. While it's meant for iPods, it works fine with iPhones. All you have to do is just select "no" when it asks to switch to plane mode or whatever. $20 is a steal. I had a different transmitter before that was ok, but never really worked that well in City or close to it.

I have used the car charger for about one month. The charger works well. The FM transmitter for the car stereo work ok, but be prepared to change to a different channel when you encounter interference.



I won't trust the charger to hold my Iphone. The rubber pads designed to hold the phone would not lock in place. The weight of my phone is not sufficient to hold it in place either. I am currently debating the use of rubber bands, super glue to hold the pads in place or simply purchasing a different product.



By the way...I love remote controls. This one is worthless.

I was expecting a clear sound given the transmitter is sending a signal only a couple of feet to the car's antenna but there is a loud fuzzy hissing throughout the music that makes this unacceptable. I'm trying to return it now that I opened the package and not getting a response from the seller. Also, your phone/ipod will sit right in front of wherever your cigarette lighter power source is in the vehicle which may not be a convenient place to look at it or access it while driving, be sure to consider this.

Please be careful while driving....... I wanted to use the charger/transmitter to charge and play my iphone. I had a similar product that i loved, i could talk on the phone while charging the phone, i could play songs while driving with ease, i would just leave the phone on my lap while driving and reach for it when i needed it, but due to a short in the cord (that happen twice) i decided to try something different. well that wasn't a good idea, this product cord was so short that i would need the arms the length of an elephant trunk to operate. i almost had accidents trying to reach for the phone to answer it, since you had to snatch the phone off the charger first to answer it, which means i couldn't charge the phone and talk on it at the same time, nor could i change songs on the phone while driving. It defeated the purpose of the product. I didn't have a problem with music play back just not user friendly.

I purchased one of these in January for use with my 3G Iphone in my Mitsubishi Eclipse. The very first time I plugged it in, it immediately blew two fuses in my car shorting out the radio and clock and frying the product. I routinely use my car jack for a variety of other electronic products (Iphone charger, bluetooth headset charger, laptop charger) without any issues.



The seller Crazyondigital exchanged it for a new one. First and foremost, it only functioned if the phone is in airplane mode. Second, the plastic plug that fits into the lighter is cheaply made and started seperating from the weight of the goose neck holder almost immediately. Third, because of the seperation of the plastic, the device falls over or tilts constantly. At that point I promptly returned it, and the seller was good enough to give a full refund.



Sound quality was medicore at best. The radio had to be turned almost to max to get decent sound out, and if you turned off the iphone, the static was then nearly overwhelming. I also got the typical electronic buzz that is common with these types of devices, but thankfully the buzz wasn't too loud.



I would not recommend this product for numerous significant design flaws. As mentioned above, the seller handled the situation with professionalism.

I am not an audiophile but I would have expected better results with a company like Griffin. Buyer beware, unless you like your MP3s sounding like they are coming out of a phonograph from the early 1900's.

Truly the best FM transmitter I've ever found. Never had luck with them in the past, and I even considered buying a new head unit w/ USB/Aux inputs just so I woulnd't have to use one. Fortunately, that upgrade never happened and I got this Griffin unit instead!



The antenna on this unit is STRONG. Figured out just how strong the other day when I unplugged it and the frequency it had been tuned to was actually a station strong enough that it was coming through loud and clear. But the unit was strong enough to overpower the station! Definitely convenient so you don't have to keep searching through the entire band every 10 minutes as you're passing through different towns.



The only complaint I have so far is that there's a little fuzzing out of the bass end at higher volumes. This may just be an issue with my mp3 player too, or how I have the volume levels on the mp3 vs the radio set.



Overall very satisfied. Would probably even have been satisfied at twice the price! Great unit.

For over 2 years I have been using the cassette player in my car with the standard cassette adapter to play my mp3 player through my car stereo. I often wondered if I was getting the best sound quality out of my music and flirted with the idea of getting one of these FM transmitters. I was scared off by the limitations with open FM frequencies in urban areas that I have seen mentioned in other reviews and the price for the good name brand ones at local retailers was prohibitive.



When the tape player in my car unexpectedly died and I could no longer use the cassette adapter, I had no choice but to look for an FM transmitter. I wasn't about to try replace the stereo in my aging vehicle and plus its tied to a disk changer that I still enjoy. I found a great price on the Griffin iTrip on Amazon, way cheaper than any retailers or other sites online. When it arrived I was thrilled at the prospect of being able to once again have access to my huge library of music on my mp3 player and I even thought I might gain the benefit of improved sound quality.



Boy was I wrong. Even when I locked in to a clear transmission (more on that later) I was shocked that the output volume was not very dynamic, the volume control on my sansa was rendered useless and I could only control the volume on the car stereo. I had to crank it up a lot higher than with my previous primitive cassette adapter. The sound quality was also a bit thin, very noticeable when listening to music with some good low end.



Once I started driving it got worse. I would hear static in the music every couple of miles, at some points it was unbearable. I figured I needed to select another station. I am in a metropolitan area so that was a challenge, there were basically 2 frequencies I could use. At different points during my hour long commute one or the other would work better than the other. I read the instructions on switching the mode to mono to potentially get better results, but any improvement was marginal.



At times the music would be overwhelmed with static and I'd just get frustrated and turn off the music altogether. Other times I'd make it through the drive with just a little bit of static here and there, but I never had an uninterrupted drive as I was used to with the cassette adapter. I couldn't believe that this is how people actually listen to their music. When I was researching I searched and searched but it seems these adapters are the only thing out there unless you have a car stereo with a direct input jack.



With all the advances in technology I am shocked and appalled that this is the best that they can come up with to listen to music in the car. Fiddling with a transmitter to get better reception is also a sure fire way to get into an accident.



If you have a choice, I highly recommend finding a different alternative, unless you are in an area where there are not a ton of stations on the FM dial.



Oh and to top it off, at times when I plug the fm transmitter in since it doubles as a charger, my sansa would freeze and its never done that before. I have to hold down the power button and wait for it to turn off and unplug the adapter and try again to get it to work. Not sure if its a problem with the player but as mentioned this has never happened before. Love the sansa, hate the FM transmitter.

The I-trip works for charging the sansa mp3 players but is severely lacking in transmitting power. I made the move from the Sansa E280 to the Sansa Fuze so my Macally cup transmitter no longer worked for me. I odered the I-trip because it was one of the few transmitters made to go into the sansa port. Compared to my Macally transmitter the I-trip is seriously lacking in power. I can not overcome most stations and when I do find an empty channel the volume is so low that I cannot listen to most of my low quality audio books and I live in South Dakota so the stations are not that packed. I have gone to using the 3.5MM jack on my Macally to get by because the I-trip just doesn't cut it. I guess I will just have to charge my fuze when I get home.

OK - Just to be fair I must say that it does charge my Zune. But if you want to play your Zune in the car (through your car audio device) while hooked up to the charger FORGET ABOUT IT!! The cable is unshielded and you will get nothing but loud hum and static. Oh and buy the way, this same IDENTICAL item is sold on Amazon for $22.95 by BoxWave - the guts, cable and connector are the same except for the brand. I bought 5 just in case one or two didn't work - they all charged as advertised but without the shielding this item is useless for me. Oh well, I'm only out a couple of bucks.

I am a previous user of the Belkin charger/AUX device that had a built in volume control. I used it for my iPod Touch and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately the iPhone 3G was not compatible, though it would play fine it would indicate that the charger was not fit for the device and it would not charge it as well.



THANKFULLY!! I read the reviews for this device and found that this will work for my iPhone 3G. Picked this up at my local department store and everything works as expected. My car has one of those "cigarette lighter" power jacks between the two front seats, and a mini-stereo input jack underneath the JBL stereo to hook up an external MP3 player. This product is ideal with my iPod nano 4G 16GB. I reach down and push the Griffin autopilot button that sits over the power jack to start an iPod song playing or to stop/pause. When the car turns off, the song stops playing automatically so I start in the same place on the same song the next time I start the car. I push the front or back arrows to advance to the next song or go back to the previous one. If I hold down the forward or back arrows, it fast forwards or fast reverses through the song I'm listening to. I never have to worry about my iPod battery, it's always charged.



One audio cable runs to the stereo. The other cable runs to my iPod which stays out-of-sight in the storage console between the front two seats, where I can pull it out conveniently if I need to access a menu for something - which is rare. Most of the time I keep my iPod set to shuffle by song (or occasionally by album), then I select a particular playlist and click play. I may go weeks without actually getting my iPod out to control it with anything other than the Griffin autopilot to start and stop random shuffle of my whole music collection. The cable that connects to the iPod uses the special "blade" ipod connection rather than the mini-stereo jack, which is nice since it means I control volume only with my stereo controls, and the output volume is unaffected by the volume setting on my iPod nano 4G). Cables are just about right with length to spare, but not so much there's any loose cables getting in the way or getting snagged.



I got this at the local Apple Store. I have used this for almost a year now and it's been ideal with no headaches. Exactly what I was looking for all in one unit, and a great value for what you get. It's innovative quality well-designed products like this that make me a big fan of Griffin.

I bought this for my original iPhone. It plays quality audio out of the port on the 12v plug with NO GSM buzz from the Edge service. It also pauses the iPod function when the ignition turns off. My iPhone stays charged even while using the iPod and Google Maps at the same time.



If you want to use it like a hands free car phone, you must plug the included 3.5mm cable (OG iPhone friendly, no adapter needed) into the iPhones headphone jack, and not the 12v plug.



It does display the stupid compatibility airplane mode message every time you connect an iPhone, but you can ignore it and "slide to unlock" and the message disappears. Not a big deal.



I have been using this for a month or so, and it has been great. I did tons of research and read lots of reviews to find an affordable, iPhone friendly charger with an audio out from the dock connector.

It works as advertised, but the sound quality is not that great -- almost every station has a lot of static on it. The volume is also pretty low, such that I have to turn the car stereo volume up pretty high to get listenable sound quality, and this exacerbates the static problem mentioned earlier. It is also shocking when switching from the FM Transmitter/iPod to a normal radio station, because the audio is so much louder. I also find myself having to switch stations every 15 minutes or so, which is not ideal when driving.



I suppose it's a decent, inexpensive alternative to buying a direct-connect stereo for the car, but with prices for good stereos down around $200, the annoyance factor is close to pushing me to upgrade my car audio system and go direct.

I was hesitant about which adapter to get for my ipod. I Bought the griffin itrip a month ago and could not be happier. My car, however, is capable of going to radio stations of 87.9 and lower. If your car is capable of this, then I suggest you put the griffin itrip on international mode (push function in the middle then hold mode for 10 secs or so, pick JP from menu). After putting the ipod on international mode it worked great with little to no static. Without international mode it worked well most of the time, but had occasional static, which of course means you have to spend some time searching for a better station. Overall if your radio can get to 87.9 this is a great product that will have little to no radio disturbance.

Let's cut to the chase: we bought this to hook up an iPod to the car stereo without lugging around a bunch of cd's. With the 8gb Nano, it holds a lot of music (sorry, I'm not into watching movies on a tiny screen. If you do, you got to get a life). I'm using this in a metropolitan area and the frequency I'm using is as low as possible - 88.3.



Pros: Simple to use. It CHARGES the new iPod Nano during use, (not listed in the Amazon site). The buttons make it easy to tune in a specific frequency. It has idiot lights to let you know the status of your iPod and the unit itself. Went to the Griffin web site to check the compatibility just to make sure. Uses a mini 2 amp fuse to protect the iPod and that is a great feature!



Cons: The "search" feature didn't always find the clearest channel especially at higher FM frequencies. As in previous reviews, I tuned it to the lowest frequency possible that would deliver a clean sound. My radio doesn't go down to 87.7 so I had to find the next higher and clearest signal. This is not really a con since for the money we are all trying to maximize our iPods for the lowest dollar amount we want to spend and to use this in the car for those long trips or just wanting to hear your favs are worth it.



HINT: The tuner function is great. Find the clear space on the radio and tune the iTrip. Usually the lower the frequency, the less "white noise" is present. Also, adjust the iPod's EQ to fit what would sound best to you, (I set mine to Acoustic) and adjust the tone quality of the car radio. The car radio volume will have to go up a little.



This is a great little product at a fair price. So the sound isn't perfect, but what the heck . . . you got your iPod playing in the car!

I bought this for my new car, not wanting to spend $50 or so on a transmitter or the $500 for a docking station for my ipod. I know that some transmitters don't really work all that great, but after reading reviews for this product I felt confident in my purchase. It took some fiddling around with the transmitter (Read Eric William's review, it helped me a lot) I got it working with my radio. I do have moments where I get some static but I do live in a more rural area with some construction going on so its no biggie for me. It works great on the freeway, which was the big thing for me.

This product claims to be a charger and does not deliver. In fact, it drains my Ipod battery at a higher rate than normal. The reception isn't bad though. You just have to crank it up to hear over the static.

I have no complaints about this product. It works exactly as it should. I especially like the preset station feature. It prevents me from having to scroll through to my preferred stations while I am driving.

I bought this at Best Buy for $89 and it's here for $20. I would buy it here. It's a great product. And it does actually work. How it works is you plug the USB cord into your iPod (I have an iPod Touch) and plug the other end into the power outlet of your car. Select a radio station that is not active and program the iTrip to the same station number. Your play list will play through your car speakers. And that's it. For me, I live in Chicago and 159.0 worked best but where you live, you have to play around with it for a while till you find the clearest station. I have not found a station that didn't produce white noise (A hissing noise like on a T.V that is turned on but not hooked up; T.V snow) but it is very minimal and hard to hear when the iPod is playing. If you're very picky with sound quality, I would not buy a transmitter. This is the only transmitter I've tried so I'm not sure if all produce white noise. But for $20 (Sadly, $89 for me) I would buy it.
