Next-Level Fun: The New iPod touch
Music

Cover Flow
What a song does for your ears, Cover Flow on iPod touch does for your eyes and fingers. It's a virtual party for the senses. Turn iPod touch on its side and glide through your music by album art with the flick of your finger. Tap an album cover to flip it over and display a track list. Tap again to start the music.
Genius Mixes
Now the Genius feature is even more powerful. Introducing Genius Mixes. All you do is sync iPod touch to iTunes, and Genius automatically searches your library to find songs that sound great together. Then it creates multiple mixes you'll love. These mixes are like channels programmed entirely with your music.
Genius Playlists
Say you're listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. The Genius feature finds other songs on your iPod touch that sound great with the one you were listening to and makes a Genius playlist for you. Listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh it and give it another go. Count on Genius to create a mix you wouldn't have thought of yourself.
Shake to Shuffle
Shake things up a bit. Musically speaking, that is. The next time you're listening to your tunes, turn on Shake to Shuffle, then give iPod touch a shake to shuffle to a different song in your music library.
iTunes
Fill your iPod touch with songs and music videos from your iTunes library on your computer. Or buy and download new music on your iPod touch when you access iTunes over Wi-Fi. Songs you purchase on iPod touch transfer to your Mac or PC the next time you connect iPod touch to your computer.
Bluetooth
Look, no cables. iPod touch includes the iPhone 3.1 software, so you can pair Bluetooth stereo headphones with it. Keep your iPod in your bag or charging on your desk across the room and still listen to your music.

The iPod came very quickly and I was anxious to start playing with it right away. I had to wait because (1) it needed to be charged (2) I had to hook it up to a computer running iTunes to configure it before I could do anything at all.
Once I got it charged and configured it was easy to understand how to use (good thing, the documentation that comes with it is extremely sparse -- have to get the manual online). It would have been nice if Apple had included a couple sample music and video files to play with right out of the box. Again, I had to pull files over via iTunes to play/test those features.
There's plenty of room for all my music, audiobooks, videos, podcasts, and pictures. It's nice to be able to download from a large set of apps (lots of free ones to play with).
One thing you need to watch is that not all iPod compatible devices will work with this version. For example, the external charger from my wife's old iPod plugs in but you get a message saying that you can't use it. So, becareful when ordering things to go with it.

After much hesistation, I finally broke down and purchased the 8GB I-pod touch. This is my first MP3 player ever, and after looking at several other brands, including the Sanza and Zune, I elected the I-pod.
In fact, I SWORE I would never get an Ipod. I am one who was very slow to "get with it" in regards to technology and hung on to my clunky portable disc player until the end. In time, I wanted a way to have simple, yet virtually unlimited access to my music, and this was my answer.
I'm not as savvy and know all of the I-pod tricks many of you experienced owners are. However, I hooked up to I-tunes and managed to import and sync my CD collection onto the device without a hitch, almost. I still need to get the cover art for my CDs on there. Haven't downloaded DVDs or books yet, but will eventually. One thing I have discovered is that the device "grows" with you and in reality, is not that hard to use. Still, I want to get the most usage out of it and the apps.
I didn't care for the headphones that came with the unit and purchased a much comfortable pair by the Sharper Image. Down the line, I will also invest in a decent FM transmitter. I did get a shell casing made by Belkin, as the steel backing gets smudged without much effort. I highly recommend a protective cover of some sort.
I must say that this is the among the best electronics purchases I have made and I would again like to thank Alex for his excellent review that I read just prior to my purchase.
