 "Nice earphones" 2009-10-22
By R. Jain (Richmond, VA USA)
These are nice earphone for their price. The sound quality is pretty good and they are really comfortable in your ears for a good amount of time. Love the fact that they come with 3 earbuds of different sizes.

But I do feel that the construction quality could have been better. I have had no problems so far, but it they feel a little delicate and it seems they need to be handled with extreme care.

Overall, a nice product!

"I'd Like to be Able to Give it a Higher Rating" 2009-10-21
By B. Worman (Chicago, Illinois)
Let me start off by saying that I really do like the V-Moda Bass Freq's, I've ordered them four times now. Twice for myself and twice as a gift. For the price you pay for these, the sound is truly good. As suggested, the bass notes from these can actually make your brain feel like it's vibrating- it's that good. These aren't all about bass however and they do have good-quality mids and highs, as well.

The headphones are also unique in that you can pick your color to match your MP3 player or whatever skin you've slapped on it and I would get compliments on them a lot.

However-

The lifespan of these headphones is abysmal. With regular use you can expect to get about six months out of them. Yeah... it's that bad. On ALL FOUR pairs of these that I have ordered (Keep in mind that I've ordered two pairs for other people) the headphones have shorted out at the point where the wire leads into the jack. The Bass-Freq's are unique in that they do not have that exoskeleton-like rubber buffer on top of the hard jack and the wire at that spot gets A LOT of movement, which leads it to shorting out there.

I really would like to be able to give these headphones a Five-Star rating, the sound, looks and price are that good, but I just can't. The quality on these things sucks...

Maybe if V-Moda could place one of those movement-buffers on top of the jack like every other headphone set on Earth has, then I would buy them again. Right now, I'm actually on here looking for another pair of headphones and decided to finally craft my review for these.

"Sound good but do not last" 2009-10-21
By H. Narayanan (Saint Louis, MO)
The v-moda earbuds sound above average but do not last; one earbud died within 6 weeks of purchase and the customer service

is sub-par (+ they require me to pay shipping for their faulty product)

"Generally good, overly loose bass" 2009-10-21
By Bobak (Los Angeles, CA)
The Vmoda earbuds make for decent in-ear phones at a reasonable price, but compared to similarly priced headphones, the bass is loose and overpowers much of the mids and highs. Otherwise, they're attractive, seem to be reasonably well build and the cables don't have excessive microphonics like some other sets. Mostly the audio quality is sub-par, even in this range of headphones.

"good bass but a little disappointing overall." 2009-10-21
By A. Ying
After having some of the reviews, I had high hopes for these ear phones but I'm a little disappointed. The audio quality is definately good, especially the bass, but i feel the treble can be a little piercing and the the mid could be clearer. Although this definately depends on the the genre and quality of music you're listening to.

These are the first in-ear headphones i've owned so they're not as comfortable as out ear headphones i think.

These are still definately very good headphones, especially for the price. I would reccomend them for people who enjoy heavy bass, but there might be better options if you're looking for more balanced sound.

 "No complaints so far..." 2009-10-16
By Snoop (Washington, DC United States)
This is the first pair of Vibe's (midnight blue)for me. Have had them for a little under 2 months and so far so good. They do take a bit of getting used to as these actually fit in your ear canal. After a couple days of experimenting with the 3 different size silicon fittings, you don't even notice them. You have to be careful you don't pull them out of your ear by the cord as this will weaken the connection to the cord thereby rendering them useless, hence the gnarled surface since there is no "handle" or extension on the body like other earbuds.

I went through 4 pair of the Bass Frequencies due to one or both earbuds cutting out during active active use (working out, etc.). I attribute that to a design flaw where the cord meets the plug. Haven't had the same problem with the Vibes as the plug connection is of a sturdier design. I have read that others have had this same problem with the Vibes, but as I said earlier it hasn't been an issue for me. I guess only time will tell.

Sound wise the Vibes don't have the thumping bass that the Bass Freqencies have and conversely the Freqencies don't have the crisp highs of the Vibes but you can work around that by adjusting the equalizer on your Ipod MP3 player.

Another plus the cord has a braided exterior which makes for easy untangling and is virtually chew proof if you have a dog or cat who happened to get a hold of them when you weren't looking. Can't say the same for the Frequencies as my dog shredded a pair of them.

Over all I'm satisfied with this pair of earbuds. The only comlaint I have thus far is that the noise of the cord rubbing against your clothes is transferred up into the earbud....Time will tell if these earbuds turn out to be a good purchase or not.

 "...when they work..." 2009-10-13
By M. Topping
these are great headphones....when they work-in now 13 months my 3rd pair just died-first pair i used often times while in bed for this reason

"It is also the only headphone designed to lie flush within the ear so that you can use it while laying down on a pillow."

after only about 2 months the wires gave out on me by the earbuds, and stopped working. when the next pair came i decided i would try to not use them while laying down, 4 months later they stopped working down by the plug into my ipod-both were the older straight plug design, now 7 months into the life of my 3rd pair with the upgraded wiring and plug they just stopped working, no visual damage to either the plug or the ear buds like in the previous cases, the left ear just stopped working followed closely by the right, the problems seems to have something to do with the metal piece in the middle of the cord separating the left and right ear. oh well great sound, but i think i will take what seems to be a slight loss in sound quality in favor of headphones that will work-or at least be fully backed up like with skullcandy who has a lifetime warranty and i suggest you do the same-

i dont think i could have ordered a better pair of ear buds, it is definitely a great purchase and my best purchase as far as ear buds are concerned......as my title says, the sound quality from these ear buds is no less than ORGASMIC if you love to listen to your musik as i do with 35,000+ songs. highly recommended buy for anyone who appreciates all the qualities of musik.....this is a 150% upgrade from my skull candy earbuds which i cant count how many times ive requested warranty replacements on one hand, much less two

 "good sound" 2009-10-11
By S. Shepherd (s brunswick, nj, usa)
These headphones have hands-down the best sound quality of any earbuds I've owned, and are fairly affordable. I replaced one pair (under warrantee) after the right channel went dead; I believe this was due to a weakness in the first generation's jack. The replacement dealt with its share of wear and tear, ultimately dying when they fell into a drying machine (I can be a klutz, but that was an unusually bad day). I made do with an alternate pair of for a while -- JBuds J2 Premium Hi-FI -- but really missed the solid bass and precise highs of the V-Modas. Finally I caved and bought a new pair, and was glad I did: they really sound much nicer.

I see another commenter complaining that the newest generation has had a slip in quality. This may be so, but I've seen no signs of it in the few days I've owned them. The sound quality still seems pretty great, and the new woven-cover cords seem less tangle-prone than the original rubber. The 45deg jack is a bit weird, but seems like it might reduce strain and extend the life of both player and phones.

Final note: though they sound best with my Sansa Clip, they also noticeably improved the sound on my first-gen iPhone. Like the hyperenthusiastic reviewer at the top of the page, the improvement was enough to get me to write my first review.

 "v-moda vibe earphones" 2009-10-11
By engrgeek
If you are a bass lover like me then this is the earphones to get. Depending on how you setup your equalizer, you will probably get a nice rumble in your ear. Its design looks great and i loved the way how they wrapped the cord. My only concern was getting it to fit comfortably, but other then that, the craftsmanship is outstanding.

"great sound, but they do not last" 2009-09-29
By Stephen C. Doherty (NYC)
They sound great and will not fall out of your ear when you are running/exercising. They fit so well that they drown out most of the noise on the subway even when the volume is off.

I must admit, however, they are not durable.

My 3rd set just started giving me problems this week. The plug connection is always the same issue- there must be a design flaw or something.

After 2+ years and 3 sets I am currently looking for a new brand.

"Nice for first week, then..." 2009-09-28
By P. M. Baloian
I purchased these for an iphone / ipod I use when running or working in the yard. They worked fine for a week and then the right ear bud popped apart and the wires inside tore from the terminals. The sound quality was very good for the price and fair overall, but the quality of the product and its construction was terrible. I would also suggest you look at alternate products that have an angled headphone plug. The angled plug tends to last much longer than the straight plug found on this model.

"Very Good Pair of Earphones" 2009-09-28
By Alec W. (New York, USA)
In light of some of the reviews about its defective nature, I would like to interject. I've had my pair for over a year now, and they're still working fine. Could it be possible that others are receiving defects? Possibly. However, if only one pair of earphones works fine, we must assume that's the way the developers wanted it to be, and that's how they develop it in the factories. You can get a defect by accident, but you can't get a set that's better than the rest by accident. Instead, I would like you to consider how you treat your headphones, what environment you usually use them in, and how you protect them when you're not using them. Find a way to store them so that they will not get tangled, store them in a place away from moisture, and unplug them when not in use. Granted, v-moda decided to construct these with plastic, but I think the plastic is much denser than a pair of stock Ipod headphones for example.

In terms of its other qualities, yes, I will attest to their powerful bass, although perhaps a bit too powerful for the in-ear variety of headphones; however, this is easily adjusted by an equalizer. One comment here: if you have music that's encoded at a low bit-rate, don't blame the headphones. Always try the headphones on a music file that's at least 320kbps .mp3, or .wma lossless, or any other high quality file, preferably extracted from a cd instead of downloaded. If you've ever been to a Bose store, I can assure you that they use the highest quality music to present their headphones as better than yours, hoping that the consumer will overlook the difference in the music. I would say that the soundstage is a bit constricted, as a result of the in-ear construction and the high proportion of bass to other ranges.

They are very comfortable, whether I am running, working, or doing anything, I hardly notice them in my ears. You will have to spend some time trying out different sizes, but I think its better than having no options to choose from. One criticism is that wire motion tends to make some sounds, I speculate that it's due to the phones moving in your ears. I've come to ignore it, even during runs, however it may bother you a bit. I don't know if there's a set of earphones immune to this, from my thoughts on its causes.

 "excellent sound, poor construcion" 2009-09-23
By satanbunnee (Los Angeles, CA USA)
i purchased these headphones with some well earned pepsi stuff points. it took me forever to get these dang things. for the first 2 weeks they were great, i absolutly loved them. the sound was crystal clear and the bass was great. then the side of the left ear piece popped off. i tried to fix it myself with super glue but there just wasn't enough surface area for it to stay on. to make things worse, i couldn't get a refund or replacement because i made my purchase with pepsi points. i would never purchase this item again and i would highly dissuade anyone from buying them.
