After 5 months of limited and careful use, my wife's 5th generation 16G iPod Nano froze up and stopped working. When she took it to the Apple Store, she was told it had "liquid damage" and that isn't covered by the warranty. I purchased the extended protection plan because her 1st generation Nano died the same way, so I thought I was being smart. They offered her a replacement at 1/2 price and she took the offer before consulting me. This unit has not been exposed to any situations that could possibly lead to "liquid damage" but the store manager stuck to the assessment when I called to complain. Before I called, I researched the "liquid damage" issue online and saw that this matter is VERY common and Apple's response is always the same. It would seem there are larger issues that Apple is hiding and the "liquid damage" diagnosis is their way to avoid owning up to the problems. Not only is this the last Apple ANYTHING I will purchase, but I have already filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and will warn as many potential victims from making the same mistakes we did.

We are out the original $233 plus $95 more for the replacement PLUS the time we've invested trying to get Apple do the right thing. Never again!

So here are the five things *I* like best about it:



It's small and lightweight and goes right into my shirt pocket.

It's inexpensive so if i lose or break it or if it is stolen no big deal.

I can use the controls without looking at it.

It holds just the right amount of music.

Sand doesn't mess it up at the beach.

The charge lasts a long time.



Okay, so that's six.



Anyway, I've had my shuffle for 2 1/2 years and I still love it.

All I wanted was an iPod that I could listen to while taking a walk or riding the subway to and from work. I didn't need a screen that would list the songs I downloaded. I didn't need video; I've never needed images to enjoy music. I certainly didn't need more than this Shuffle's capacity. And I wasn't looking to impress anyone by pulling something super-expensive and eye-catching out of my pocket. So...the tiny iPod Shuffle is perfect for me. It easy to use, has good sound, and the controls are so easy and manageable that I don't have to pull it out of my pocket to use them. Of course, not everyone is going to feel that no-frills is the way to go. But if you do like it simple, prefer Apple products, and either don't want to or can't spend a lot of money, I believe you'll be happy with the Shuffle.

I bought this iPod for my 14 yo son. It is his very first iPod and he loves it. It and iTunes are easy to use and we were both pleasantly surprised to learn there are several very fun game apps that he can get for it. It took quite awhile for iTunes to convert all the music files he had, but aside from the time we were glad that it is an automated process which needed little user-interaction to happen.

I PURCHASED TWO 8GB'S IPODS. ONE I GAVE AWAY BUT THE LAST ONE I PURCHASED DOES NOT HOLD 2000 SONGS. I ONLY HAVE 850 AND IT IS SHOWING THAT IT IS ALMOST FILLED TO CAPACITY. AND I ONLY HAVE 41 PHOTOS ON IT. THE ONE THAT I GAVE AWAY I HAD OVER 1000 SONGS ON IT AND IT WAS ONLY HALF FILLED.

Let me state this up front: I am on the Mac side of the Mac/PC war. There isn't even a competition. Macs are real computers, PCs are more like abacuses that plug in, and I can say that as I have both. Therefore, I would be inclined to rave over an Apple product that is efficient, sleek and cool as the Nano 4th generation is. I've had 2nd generation Nanos and loved them, though both conked out after a couple of years. Still, what's the alternative? A Zune? Hardly.



The 4th gen Nano is an improvement over the previous models and even uses the fun graphics found on the Classic. The off switch is more pronounced and easier to access. I do hope they stick with this shape and style for a while as I don't want to have to keep buying covers and cases every time I get a new Nano, which I use exclusively for exercise.



My gripe is with Itunes. I am no fool. I know that Itunes is designed to sell music first and foremost. However, for an Apple product, it is surprisingly unintuitive and difficult to use. You cannot order your songs as you can on Windows Media; you cannot find the information you need in a search; and while I've been told that you can use various computers, it's all so confusing that I do not. This is that rare case wherein Windows actually beats Mac, and that is the only drawback to Ipods.



Oh, and it wouldn't kill Apple to finally start adjusting the prices of the Ipods now that everyone has one.
