Customer Reviews

Does not work with iphone
...the plug does not fit well, so it charges the iphone for a few seconds if you wiggle it around and then it comes loose again and stops charging. It does look identical to the kit that came with my phone but it does not work!

yeah...ok
Just a little utilitarian device. I haven't tried it yet. I guess its OK. Something that Apple should have included in the box. I don't always have a computer with me to charge up my i pod. A wall plug is concienient.

does not work for 3G ipod
This charger works for all of my ipods except the old 3G 10GB ipod. It does not charge it but discharges.

Free ITunes Music Lessons

As happy as some people are to mimic their favorite six-string slingers on air guitar (or its digital equivalent, Guitar Hero), some of us actually want to do the real thing--be on stage, playing a real instrument. Regrettably, it takes more than a plastic game controller and a rocker's O Face to earn a spot in front of the Marshall stack. It takes practice and a good instructor.

The practicing is up to you, but iTunes can help with the latter. Some enterprising instructors and companies have taken advantage of iTunes' podcast powers to post instrument-specific instructional video podcasts. Many of these podcasts exists either as a come-on for instructional videos sold by the host websites or as an advertisement for a particular instructor, meaning that they're anything but a complete rundown from basic techniques and chord structures to advanced scales and chord substitutions. But many of them provide a reasonable foundation that can enhance work you're doing with a real teacher or with the increasing pile of sheet music under your desk.

Early on in iTunes' podcasting days, iPlayMusic offered (and still offers) its Beginner Guitar Lessons series. These are snippets from iPlayMusic's retain interactive instructional videos. They include split screen views so you can see the instructor, the guitar tab the instructor is demonstrating, and a couple of views of the guitar--a spotlight on the right hand and another on the left, for example.

Watch&Learn's Freeguitarvideos.com provides just five videos in its iTunes video podcast, but they're a bit longer than those from iPlayMusic. Despite the moniker Freeguitarvideos, while the host site provides some free videos, you're going to get the good stuff by purchasing one of its premium downloads, which run around 20 minutes and US$5 each.

iVideosongs.com has the slickest guitar instruction podcasts on iTunes--presented in HD. The company offers six titles for free--Beginning Guitar 101, Blues Concepts, Acoustic Guitar Techniques, Warm-Ups, Lead Guitar Concepts, and Left Hand Techniques. There's a lot of good stuff in the iTunes offerings if you're a beginner--more advanced players will want to spend time (and money) on iVideosongs website where they can purchase instructional videos taught by such pros as Jeff Carlisi, John Oates, Eric Mongrain, and Alex Lifeson (and Chuck Leavell, if you're a piano player, or Russ Kunkel, if you beat the skins). Their videos run between $5 and $10, last from around 15- to 45 minutes, and are often song-based--the instructors teach you how to play a particular tune, while demonstrating specific techniques along the way. Often an instructor is the musician responsible for playing the original tune--Chuck Leavell shows you the piano part from the Allman Brothers' Jessica, for example.

And then there's Little Kids Rock. On iTunes you'll find Guitar Lessons, 20 guitar lessons targeted at kids. In addition to the low-res videos, you can download a PDF file for each lesson (or download all the lessons as a single PDF). Little Kids Rock also has Drum Lessons for free. What's the catch? LittleKidsRock.org is trying to keep kids interested in music as schools cut their music programs. From all appearances, they are doing The Good Work and deserve your support.

Though it often seems like it, guitar players don't rule the musical world. If you're a keyboard player, check out the Piano Lessons Online video podcast. Presented in both high- and low-res versions, these are snippets from David Sprunger's Playpianotoday.com, a website that offers a series of pay-for piano courses. The host website is pretty heavy-handed--making you sit through a long advertisement and then demanding an email address so that you can gain access to the free material--but the guy can clearly play.

And there's more. Search iTunes using the name of an instrument followed by "instruction" and you're bound to turn up some helpful free podcasts that can aid your climb to the top of the charts.

Apple Upgrades iPhone to 3G; Slashes Price

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today introduced the second-generation iPhone with new pricing and with 3G and GPS capabilities.

An 8GB iPhone 3G will sell for $199--one-third of what the 8GB iPhone sold for at launch. A 16GB model will sell for $299, and will come in white and black versions. Sales of the new handsets will begin on July 11.

Jobs made the announcements in his keynote speech kicking off this year's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Apple also announced a slew of interesting applications for the iPhone, including games, news, blog tools, and Major League Baseball.

Conspicuously missing from today's announcement was any mention of how much the corresponding 3G wireless services will cost. After the event, AT&T said it will not be treating the iPhone 3G any differently than any other phone; you'll pay whatever your rate plan is, plus $30 for unlimited data use (or $45 for business users). A two-year contract will be required, as will in-store activation. AT&T Wireless remains the iPhone's exclusive provider in the United States. The iPhone 3G will be introduced in 22 countries at launch.

The iPhone 3G, as its name implies, will feature support for 3G cellular networks. The original iPhone's lack of 3G support was widely criticized when that model first launched last summer.

Apple did say that physical changes to the new iPhone include a curvier design, full plastic back, solid metal buttons, and a flush headphone jack.
GPS Capability

In his announcement of the new device, Jobs provided precious few details about the phone. And much of what he did announce was already anticipated. The biggest revelation about the new phone is its inclusion of GPS location tracking, a feature that many iPhone users insisted on for the next-gen device.

Jobs was relatively quiet on the phone's physical dimensions. He made a point of calling out the iPhone 3G's thinner edges and plastic back, but he did not mention anything about its thickness (rumors pin the 3G model as being thicker than its predecessor, in order to accommodate the 3G radio and other components).

The headphone jack is now flush with the upper edge of the phone--a huge improvement over the design of the previous version, which required a kludgy plug to connect a headphone.

Another enhancement over the first-generation iPhone is a boost to the device's battery life. In spite of its faster broadband data speeds, the device will offer up to 300 hours of standby time, up to 10 hours of 2G talk time (compared with 8 hours on the previous model), and up to 5 hours of 3G talk time.

"That's actually a very large amount of 3G talk time. We're very proud of this," said Jobs. The phone will run for 5 to 6 hours of high-speed Web browsing and 7 hours of video viewing. Music playback is good for up to 24 hours of battery life (which puts the new iPhone right alongside stand-alone iPod audio players).
Software Improvements

Many of the iPhone 3G's improvements will be found in its software tweaks, dubbed iPhone 2.0. For example, the phone will now support a slew of core features for enterprise security (including VPN and WPA wireless encryption). In addition, you can search through contacts, display iWork documents and Microsoft Office files, and save images received in e-mail to your photo library. It also offers batch delete and move support while in the e-mail app, and multilingual support.
iPhone Sales and Prognosis for the Future

According to Jobs, in its first year the iPhone has sold 6 million units. A whopping 98 percent of iPhone users browse the Web, 94 percent use e-mail, 90 percent do text messaging, and 80 percent use ten or more features. "You can't even begin to figure out how to use ten features" on other phones, Jobs said.

With its inclusion of a 3G radio and GPS, enterprise security, and broader international support, the iPhone 3G looks well positioned to build on Apple's market share, which climbed to 27 percent by the end of 2007 according to research firm IDC.

Even with many details, such as the service costs, still unknown, Apple is clearly prepared to take on Research in Motion, maker of the popular BlackBerry smart phones. RIM currently has a 35 percent share of the smart-phone market.

Keep Your Music Ultra Portable With the Right iPod Shuffle Accessories

What's the Point of Having a Tiny iPod Shuffle Then Tying It Down With a Big Speaker Docking System?

Apple's iPod shuffle, the most miniature version of the popular iPod available, is one of the most popular products for the portable music enthusiast. The earbud headphones that come with the iPod shuffle are good enough to make your on the go experience enjoyable, but there are many other iPod shuffle accessories which can further enhance your music listening experience.

Headphones and Speakers

Headphones are without a doubt one of the most popular iPod shuffle accessories. While the earbud headphones that come with it are good enough for many users, others prefer different headphones, either because they find the earbuds uncomfortable or because they want headphones that deliver crisper audio. Any headphones that use a 3.5mm stereo minijack will work with the iPod shuffle, from traditional over-the-ear headphones to simply different earbuds. After all, sometimes headphones break and you need replacements; fortunately there's no lack of selection, and decent-quality headphones can easily be found for under $10 a pair.

Speakers are another popular iPod shuffle accessory. Speaker technology has gotten to the point where crisp, power speakers come in small enough sizes that you won't feel silly hooking them up to the miniscule iPod shuffle. It is very important to remember that the iPod shuffle only has the minijack as an interface; this means that accessories like docking station speakers won't work with the iPod shuffle, because it lacks the standard iPod docking port. Only a speaker dock specifically designed to pass power through the minijack, like the shuffle's own included dock, will work with it.

Other iPod Shuffle Accessories

Also popular is the car charger. This iPod shuffle accessory plugs into your car's power adapter or cigarette lighter to deliver power to your shuffle to keep it charged while on the go. You can also find cables, connectors, or even FM transmitters that let you listen to your iPod shuffle over your car's stereo system, letting you listen to your music while you drive without worrying about the dangers of having your headphones on in the car.

An interesting accessory for anybody who spends a lot of their time on the go is the USB Travel Dock from Marware. This simple accessory is nothing more than a dock for the iPod shuffle connected directly to a USB connector, without the wire between the two that the standard dock comes with. While it may not sound like much, this iPod shuffle accessory will be appreciated by anybody who normally plugs their dock into their laptop and wants to have fewer cables around to get tangled up.

In the end, the use and perceived value that you get from your iPod shuffle is up to you. While the shuffle by itself is a great value, you can get much more out of it if you're willing to spend a little more on some iPod shuffle accessories. The great thing is that because the iPod shuffle only plays music, you don't have to worry about accessories that play video or scratch-resistant coverings for the video screen. In the end, every available iPod shuffle accessory has only one purpose: to help you listen to your music the way you want to.

iPod Car Accessories are the Ultimate in Portability

Tired of Hearing The Same Songs Over and Over Again? Bring Your iPod With You on Your Next Car Trip and Never Be Subjected to Commercial Radio Again!

Have you ever been on a long car ride and hated every minute of it because you can't find anything you like on the radio? This happens to most of us and can turn even the most enjoyable road trip into an exercise in drudgery. Fortunately, with just one or two iPod car accessories, you can bring your favorite tunes along with you and never again have to settle for what's playing on the radio.

Make Every Car Ride a Joy Ride

At its most basic, there are two iPod car accessories you will need to listen to your music on the road: one to give you a way to hear the music, and one to keep the power on. Most of the time, the iPod car accessory will cover both needs, either in one unit or as a kit, but understanding these two requirements will help you select the best product or products for your needs.

Listening to your iPod in the car first requires a way to get the music from your iPod to your radio. There are several iPod car accessories that can do this for you. The most popular option is an FM transmitter that you plug into your iPod and set to broadcast on an unused station. All you have to then do is tune your radio to the channel your iPod is broadcasting to and you have instant music. The lack of wires running out of your iPod is part of the appeal of an FM transmitter.

Another option if your car radio has a cassette player is an adapter goes from your iPod to the cassette slot, just like the adapter many of us have used to connect up a portable CD player to the radio's cassette player. If you already have one of these lying around somewhere you won't even need to buy anything because it will plug into the headset plug of the iPod!

A third option is to have a permanent connection installed for your iPod. After-market radios usually have an accessory input where an iPod car accessory adapter can be plugged in, and a cable run out from behind the dashboard that you plug into your iPod. While this option will give the best sound quality of all the others, it will also be the most expensive because it will require professional installation. But if you spend a lot of time in your car, it will be worth it. Many car manufacturers are also now offering this kind of iPod connectivity as an option in their higher-end models.

iPod speakers are also an option for listening to your iPod in your car. They're not an ideal solution, since they can rattle around the car and fall off the seat or rear deck. If you already have a set of speakers that don't rely on AC power this can be a workable, if inelegant solution.

Keep the (Power) Lights On

Most of these iPod car accessories are either power-neutral (don't draw power from the iPod but don't provide power to it either) or draw power from the iPod. If all of your driving consists of commuting to the office and you charge your iPod between trips, this isn't so bad. But if you're driving long distance, you're going to need a way to keep the juice flowing to the iPod so you don't drain its battery and end up stuck listening to the radio again.

To keep your iPod playing, a car charger is a necessity. It's a simple cable that runs from your car's power adapter or cigarette lighter and keeps your iPod charged while it plays. The great thing is, you can listen to your iPod for your whole drive, then when you've arrived you can take your iPod out of the car and it's fully charged and ready to keep you entertained wherever you go next.

Some of the permanent connections also include a power connection. If you're getting one installed in your car, make sure this is included or you'll still have to buy a power adapter. If it's a factory-installed connection, check your owner's manual to see if it provides power to your iPod. Generally, if the connection is made to the headset port, then you'll need a power adapter but if it's connected to the docking port, you won't.

Keep Your Eyes on the Road

Safety is an important issue to bring up when using iPod car accessories. Make sure you don't let your iPod distract you from your driving! Try to avoid changing volume or tracks while your car is moving. One of the great things about permanent connections is that many of them allow you to control your iPod using the controls of the radio itself. This is especially handy if your radio has wheel-mounted controls. If you're using a stand-alone adapter, try to position your iPod so you can see it without taking your eyes off the road. If you can't, just plug the iPod in, hit play, and forget about it. It's not worth dying just because you don't want to listen to one song.

An Overview of the Top iPod Classic Accessories

The popularity of Apple's iPod has spawned a huge industry of iPod accessories. There is such a wide variety to choose from, it can be hard to decide which ones are important to look at and which ones are pointless fluff. Here's a look at the five iPod classic accessories that every iPod owner needs to consider.

Case

The first iPod classic accessory that every owner should purchase is a protective case. A case is especially important if you travel with your iPod, and if you shove it in your pocket or purse with your keys you're just asking for trouble without a case. The finish of the iPod classic is especially vulnerable to the dings and dents of everyday life. A protective case will keep your iPod looking pristine, and helps keep dust and dirt away from the vulnerable electronics inside.

Screen Protector

Almost as important as a case is a screen protector. Most cases do not cover the screen, because users want to be able to see the screen without taking it out of the case. A screen protector will protect the screen, which is even more vulnerable to scratches than the metal body. And a scratch across the screen is even more annoying than a scratch across the body, because you'll be looking right at it every time you look at the screen. Like the case, if you move your iPod classic around a lot, a screen protector is a valuable iPod classic accessory that will keep your iPod looking good.

Charger

An iPod with a dead battery is basically a paperweight. An extra charger or two is an iPod classic accessory worth having, both for convenience and to reduce the chance of running out of juice. Having an extra charger means you can charge your iPod at home and in the office, and you won't run out of power in the middle of the day. If you spend a lot of time in the car and listen to your iPod while driving (through speakers or an iTrip, please don't use headphones while driving), a car charger that plugs into the lighter jack will ensure that you have music the whole way.

Cables

Cables are another necessary iPod classic accessory. With just about every computer peripheral now using a USB connection, free USB ports may be at a premium on your computer. Fear not, because you can get a cable that lets you connect your iPod to your computer's FireWire port instead. Also, if you have iTunes installed on your computer at the office as well as your home computer, an extra sync cable will save you from having to transport the cable back and forth. There are also cables available that let you connect your iPod to your home stereo.

Speakers

Speakers are one of the most popular iPod classic accessories, and therefore come in a wide variety. Most speakers plug into the headphone jack, and are either battery powered or plugged into a wall outlet. There are also speakers that the iPod classic can dock with, which will have the added benefit of charging the unit while it's playing. Many of these speaker docking stations come with a remote, so you can skip songs and adjust the volume without going over to the unit. Speakers will generally give better sound than headphones, and will allow you to share your music with everyone in the room. If you're looking for portability, go with the battery-powered speakers. Otherwise, AC-powered speakers will sound better and can have the added functionality of being a docking station.

The wide variety of iPod classic accessories available can be overwhelming. Now, you've been given the information that should help you to decide on what accessories you need, and what ones you can avoid.

Going From Here to There With an iPod Case

Personalize Your iPod While Keeping it Safe

Most every electronic device today has some sort of protective carrying case. From portable gaming systems to digital cameras to cell phones, cases not only protect the gadget, the also ensure that all the components stay together. With a carrying case, cables stay put and memory cards are not lost along the way. Headphones are not separated or broken, and games, batteries and even instruction manuals are never lost.

Unfortunately, many of these cases are bulky; rarely is any socialite seen walking around with his or her cell phone slipped into a belt buckle carrying case. While older women or construction workers might not see the absurdity in this design, others do. Protective cases are, for the most part, the opposite of delicate, and in a world where electronic manufacturers are marching ever so quickly toward the smallest, the coolest, the thinnest and the sleekest, many users will go without the protection of a carrying case to maintain the look and presence of their devices.

The iPod case is a different story. In this shallow world of universal concern for everyone else's appearance, rarely is any iPod user ever seen without a case. While the case does, once again, protect a multi-hundred dollar investment, the iPod case is sleek, it's cool, and in many ways, it allows the user to express his or her beliefs, personality and desires in a way the iPod itself cannot.

Hear the Rainbow

Current generation iPod Classics are available in either black or silver, and while the newer Nanos and Shuffles offer a wider selection of colors, the variety is still limited.

Available iPod Colors:
Shuffle: silver, blue, green, purple, red
Nano: silver, blue, green, black, pink, red
Classic: black, silver
Touch: black

However, the iPod case is available in a rainbow of colors, designs and patterns. If a user wants a purple iPod Classic, or an iPod graced by the logo of their favorite band, he or she can find a case to transform his or her iPod into a work of art. The iPod case is also offered in numerous materials, each serving a specific purpose and each tailored toward the specific need of potential buyers. Some cases are nothing more than a knit sock that slides on the iPod to protect it from minimal dirt and dust. Others are rubber or silicone sleeves that offer grip as well, protecting the iPod from water and other damaging agents, and protecting the screens from the elements. An iPod case can even be made from metal, clipping around the iPod to provide the ultimate shield, while also maintaining an aura of awe and splendor with its futuristic look and feel.

Colors and materials are only the beginning. An iPod case is also designed with certain uses in mind. While most allow the user to keep his or her iPod protected and still utilize its functions, some are aimed toward simply carrying the iPod around while it is not in use. Others are arm bands that slip around the upper arm of a listener, holding the iPod in place while he or she is on a tread mill, in the weight room or at a yoga class. The iPod case is as varied in uses as it is in colors and materials.

In the end, a listener can make a rather loud statement when he or she slips his or her device into one of these products.

Setting the maximum volume limit on iPod

The 1.1.1 software update for iPod nano and Fifth Generation iPod provides an easy way for you to set a maximum volume limit to prevent the volume from exceeding a certain level. This feature works with any headphones attached to the headphone jack and with the iPod Radio Remote; other Apple and third-party accessories are not supported with this feature. You can also assign a combination to prevent the setting from being changed which is ideal for parental control.

With iTunes 6.0.5 or later and iPod shuffle Software 1.1.4 or later, you can now set a maximum volume limit for your iPod shuffle.

Creating Ipod-Ready Video Clips

Last year the fifth generation iPod was launched. The best thing about this latest release is its ability to store and play videos. However, the public was disappointed because the iPod’s companion software, iTunes, is unable to convert existing videos to a format that can be read by the iPod.

During that time, a third party software is required to be able to convert video clips for iPods. This is not the case anymore because the newest iTunes 6.0.2 comes with a video conversion tool to be able to transform video clips into an iPod-compatible format. As a typical Apple product, the conversion tool is subtly integrated into iTunes, so not everyone is able to maximize this feature. Here is a little tutorial to help you convert your video clips.
iTunes 6.0.2 is capable of converting Quick-Time compatible video formats into iPod-ready video files. These formats can be MOV, MPEG and MP4. These files are converted to H.264 format video. This handles videos that are 320 pixels wide. iTunes does not allow reconfiguring this setting. The format is great when the videos are viewed in iPods, but if these files are viewed on TV or PC, the quality is not as good.

The first step is to add your video clips to your iTunes library. This can be done by simply dragging and dropping them into your iTunes library window. Select the files you want to convert and then right click on your mouse button. A menu will popup and you have to select the option “Convert Selection for iPod”. iTunes will automatically convert the selected files into an iPod-ready video format. You will be able to monitor the status of the conversion process by clicking on “Source” and then “Converting Songs”.

After converting your video clips, you now how two files with the same content. You may delete the older file. It is very easy to distinguish between the two files. All you have to do is to check the file properties and look at the “Date Added” column.

Now that your video clips are compatible to your iPod, you may now transfer the files and begin viewing your favorite video clips anytime and anywhere!

Selecting Speakers For Your iPod

More and more people are purchasing a set of speakers for their iPods, some to replace their current home audio set ups in order to get rid of the cd collections that take up so much room, some to have a portable audio source for when they are away on holiday, some just for having some iPod speakers because everyone else is buying them! One of the problems we come across the most is people being faced with a huge selection of choices and feeling bewildered about what to buy. What I am aim to do is make your choice that little bit easier.

We can break down the different sets of speakers into the following categories:

Portable and powered by batteries.

Portable and powered by mains adapter.

Home Set up powered by mains adapter.

For those of you looking for a portable set that is powered by batteries there are a variety of excellent options at varying prices. Personally I am of the belief that whatever amount of money you are spending it is important that sound quality is pretty good as what use is a light speaker set that has crackily sound! If you are looking to spend under £50 then we highly rate both the Logic 3 i-Station 7 and the Monster iSpeaker. Both of these are very light to carry, are of a size very conveninet for putting ina backpack or suitcase and run for a good amount of time on batteries, sound from both is exceptional for this pricepoint with great clarity.

If you are looking to spend a little more then a lot of options open up in the £50 to £150 bracket. If lightweight is your number one problem then you will not go far wrong with the JBL On Tour, this is an incredibly lightweight unit that what it lacks in bass it makes up for in the sound clarity department. If you would prefer better sound quality then a step up to an Altec Lansing IM5 or Logitech MM50, Saitek A250 and for iPod Nano Owners the XtremeMac MicroBlast. All of these provide excellent sound alongside good looks and a highly portable structure. Once your budget is going over £150 you are in to the realms of a great portable system in the Altec Lansing IM7, thumping bass, crystal clear treble and a great portable structure, definetly the daddy of portable iPod Docking Stations and Speaker units.

If you would like something that can be considered portable but don't mind having to use a mains charger then there are a couple of good options available. One of our favourites is the Macally IceTune, this is indeed one of our top 5 iPod accessories altogether, when stacked up it looks like a coke can and has two separate speakers that can be removed and pointed to send sounds in different directions, the sound quality is excelletn for only £39.99 and it is very much portable but does require mains power. The JBL On Stage is another wonderful compact and lightweight unit that can be plugged into the mains for power and will charge your iPod while you listen to it, very high quality sound, lacks bass a littel but you are compromising bass to have such a small portable unit, clarity of sound and loudness are both very impressive. Another excellent unit in this bracket is the Logic 3 iStation 8, newly released and keeping up the fabulous reputation of the iStation 7 this really is worth the money, great combinations of bass and treble and very much a portable size and weight.

For the home set up there are a variety of options and in honesty the best value speakers in our opinion come at this price point. For just £59.99 you can have a pair of JBL Creature II's, these are surely one of the greatest home electronics products to ever hit the market, the bass is phenomenal and the clarity is superb, vocals sound great for many types of music, they also look very appealing and are bound to interest visitors who glaze their eyes upon them! Also in the JBL range are the Encounters, these expand on the Creature philosophy of an alien themed set of speakers and have even stronger bass, they are quite simply phenomenal! At this price point we also have the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks, for a long time these have been my individual favourite speakers, they are see through so you can have a look at what is going on inside and provide possibly the clearest vocals you will hear from iPod focused speakers they are simply outstanding, perhaps not as strong bass as the Encounters but still more than enough for most pallettes. For anyone considering a home iPod set up I strongly suggest a very close look at the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks they are oustanding and will fit in to 99% of home settings in the living room, dining room, kitchen etc!

Hopefully this guide has been of some use to you choosing your speakers, firstly establish which of the three categories your requirements for speakers come into and then you can use the above advice to direct you to some great units, we wish you the best of luck in your choice!

Add Fun To Your Ipod With Accessories

The iPod is the ultimate symbol of the digital age and only those entirely out of the loop haven't heard about it by now. The iPod is today's hottest gadget. Owning one elevates you to the status of the iPod people--audiophiles in love with their iPods. What self-respecting iPod person would you be if you didn't spruce up your iPod with iPod accessories? Fortunately, there are countless companies who offer the best and most exciting hardware and software iPod accessories to complement and personalize your "baby."

Let's begin with the basics of iPod accessories: iPod skins. The first, second and third generation iPods often had to content themselves with the iPod accessories mostly consisting of cases in leather, rubber, aluminum or fabric to protect the iPod from scratches, dust and moisture. Depending on your requirements, there are covers that allow you to carry your iPod in all your activities. From water-resistant cases to sweat-proof sleeves, these iPod accessories help the iPod be more portable.

The skins can also serve a stylish function. http://DecalGirl.com has a vast array of iPod skins, from loud colors to your favorite anime characters, and almost anything you imagine is possible. You can even satisfy the abstract side of you with graphic designs printed on your iPod skin. Just make certain that the iPod accessories you buy come with a guarantee, in case of an inferior product.

The next essential iPod accessories you will need are headphones or earphones. Although an iPod comes equipped with earphones, there are but a few users who prefer a surround sound experience. Other iPod headphone accessories include the retractable headphones, which is great to use while outside. And then there are the headphones with attached speakers, the infrared wireless earphones and water-resistant earphones for those times when you can't even take a bath without listening to your iPod.

Aside from these basic earpieces, external speakers and carrying case iPod accessories are quite popular. The iBoom iPod player has a dock for your iPod player with speakers attached to the sides. It is perfect for picnics and beach outings where music is a must to liven up the party. iPods- Basic Information You Need To Know

Let's face the fact. iPods are the hottest things to have these days. Just about everybody has one or wants to get one. It's an all in one gadget that seems to do wonders.

iPods are capable of playing music while you are on the move, organizing your personal and business commitments, storing photos which you can proudly display to your friends at the touch of a button.

Since May 2005, Mecedes-Benz, announced that they were integrating the Apple iPod Interface Kit in their passenger vehicles. How cool is that? Very!
Just when you thought that things could not get better, the iPod mini was released complete with cool accessories like:

• Apple remote - Universal Docks support this. You can connect it to a stereo or television, plug it in the Dock and control everything from there.

• USB power adapter- Easily charge your iPod while you are surfing the internet.

• AV connection kit- Play your favourite tunes, movies or photos on the television with a simple connection.

• Radio remote- Changing radio stations is a breeze with the remote. It is a wired remote.

• Universal dock – Basically this allows you to connect your iPod to the television or home entertainment system to view movies or display photos, etc.

• USB cable- You need this to connect your iPod to your computer.

• Camera connector- Tranfer your pretty pictures from your camera directly to your iPod

• In-ear headphones- Makes listening to music even better with its good bas response and quality audio.

You have some variety too. Since iPods come in models with 512MB or 1G. The prices are also very reasonable considering the tons of cool stuff you could do with an iPod. For about $100, you could pick up an iPod and be listening to Shakira's latest hit in minutes.

There are several points you need to consider so that you'll be able to make a wise decision when buying an iPod.

1.) iPod Nano

The iPod Nano is the most common model now. You have a coice of music, data and photos with this model and the colors are great. It is a slim model that will easily slide into your pocket.

2.) Battery life

The 4G model battery lasts about 8 hours roughly. Not too good. However, the latest 5G models have a battery life of about 14 hours. That's much better and the battery lasts much longer too.

3.) Color

Pretty standard color here. :)

4.)Video

In the past, video was not an option. Thankfully, things have improved and now with the iPod Video, you can have data, music, photo and video...all in one model. Just fantastic!

5.)iPod Shuffle

The iPod Shuffle is a slightly cheaper iPod model and suitable for those with a lower budget. It only supports music which you can listen to in a sequence or shufled. There is no screen or other features. If you only need an iPod to play music and don't really need the fancy features, this model would be a good pick.

You should be able to purchase an iPod from most good electronics stores. You could even buy one online.

Some websites are even giving away iPods free. Basically, you'll need to fill up some affiliate form and refer 5 friends to the site to do the same. It's a simple idea but you may face some difficulty getting friends to sign up. You could give it a try. There are many people who have received a free iPod in this manner. The rewards are good since the effort you put into it is minimal.

The Talent Story of the iPod

At the beginning of every great business success there’s a human capital story, and that’s certainly the case with the iPod. In just over four years, the iPod/iTunes product and business strategy has helped Apple double its market cap, establish over 80% market share in two very profitable industries, and drive almost $3 billion per year in revenue. But the story of the iPod is not just a story about innovation. It’s also a testament to one company’s ability above all others to hire a true visionary. It’s a story that every executive hoping to take their company to the next level should read. The Story of the iPod I first stumbled upon this story while I was preparing for a speech I was giving on the future of recruiting in Vancouver, BC. A big focus of my talk was on quality of hire ó including the metrics, technologies and processes that could support aligning a recruiting department around quality of hire. But I needed an example that illustrated the value of top talent. I thought for a moment about the great business stories of the last few years, and my thoughts immediately turned to the iPod. In the back of my mind, I assumed that it was an entire team of individuals brainstorming in a board room who built the strategy and laid the foundation for the iPod’s success. But in fact there was one person without whom none of this would have been possible: the founder of the iPod, Tony Fadell. In the late 1990’s, Fadell began working on a business strategy that would revolutionize digital music hardware and software by combining the two together into one powerful platform. You may be surprised to know that Apple wasn’t the first company to hear about his idea, however. Fadell shopped the idea around to several companies, including RealNetworks and his previous employer, Philips. None of them jumped on it as fast and as hard as Apple, who gave the project the undivided attention and vision of founder and CEO Steve Jobs. The project was completed in under six months, a record for Apple. “This is the project that’s going to remold Apple,” Fadell predicted in early 2001. “Ten years from now, it’s going to be a music business, not a computer business.” And he was right. Finding the Next Tony Fadell For any executive with questions about what hiring top performers can do for a company, Tony Fadell is not the only example. You don’t have to look much further than:

* Omid Kordestani, who helped turn Google, a growing search engine without a significant revenue model, into a truly disruptive online advertising force, with over $5 billion in yearly revenue and a $126 billion market cap.

* Steve Ballmer, the business mind behind the Microsoft miracle, and the first head of recruiting at the company. For a long period of time early on, he interviewed every new employee, made offers, and closed deals.
* Howard Schultz, who’s created a global empire out of a new twist on coffee ó after literally begging for a marketing job at Starbucks in the 1980’s.
* Dennis Carter, a director of marketing at Intel who created the Intel Inside program, which gave Intel a sustainable competitive advantage, regardless of competitor processor speeds, and catapulted the company into one of the top ten known brands in the world.
* Theo Epstein, the innovative general manager of the Boston Red Sox, who ended over 80 years of frustration for an entire region of the U.S.

It may scare you to know how easy it was to find Tony Fadell before he changed the game at Apple. Fadell had spent years working for Philips leading up their mobile computing group and at General Magic in various senior engineering positions. He had been featured in a Fast Company magazine article on managing the generation gap in the workplace as early as 1998. He established five public patents at General Magic. His resume was (and still is) posted online. The lesson for every executive that gives a corporate goal of building the next iPod, growing into a retail organization that builds thousands of new stores per year, or revolutionizing the way that companies advertise online, is that great ideas start with great people. There’s no question that, in hindsight, most companies would bend over backwards to go back in time and hire Tony Fadell in 1998, Omid Kordestani in 1999, or Howard Schultz in the 1980s. Visionary Recruiting Practices While it may indeed be getting easier to find the next Tony Fadells, I would argue that it’s getting harder to hire them. Reading between the lines of the Fast Company magazine article, you can see how an environment that stimulates creativity is as essential to recruiting top talent as it is to keeping them. So here is a simple five-question checklist for your organization to see if you’re prepared to hunt and compete for top talent:

1. Are you targeting the right people for your mission-critical openings? Unless you lived down the hall from him in college, it’s not very likely that the next Steve Ballmer will show up at your doorstep. It’s also not likely that he or she will be on a job board, attending a job fair, reading a classified newspaper ad, or viewing your recruitment ad in a trade journal. This person is more likely to be reading blogs, searching for relevant content online, attending industry trade shows, or interacting with other industry top performers (including A players at your company).
2. Are you building relationships with talent ahead of demand? It’s difficult to impossible to build a deep bench of talent in every area. But for your mission-critical openings ó the ones that can be the difference between becoming the next Google or the next Pets.com ó I suggest being very prepared with a slate of people you can contact when the perfect opening becomes available or to get recommendations of top performers. This means getting more systematic and efficient about candidate relationship management in advance of the applicant tracking process, hiring specialists who can “hunt” and sell great talent without requisitions, and using technology to its full potential to augment and scale your efforts.
3. Are you looking for visionaries with ideas, not just resumes with years of experience? As Seth Godin said best in his best-selling book Unleashing the Ideavirus, in the new economy we’re all in the idea business. The best ideas that can spread the fastest create the most value for companies. Google’s Code Jam is an outstanding example of a company that is directly connecting with the leading technical minds before they start looking for work ó and hoping the idea spreads like a virus (it just has).
4. Are you rewarding your recruiters for high impact hires? More companies are beginning to tie on-the-job performance to their recruiting teams ó in a new economy of ideas, this is crucial. Taking this a step further, if I was a recruiter who hired a person who added billions of dollars to the bottom line, wouldn’t it be reasonable to expect to be compensated for it? If I knew that no matter how big of an impact I made with a hire, I’d be paid the same, well… it might be easier just to keep putting bodies in seats.
5. Do you have an environment where new ideas can be generated and quickly take flight? Philips got a new building, painted their walls different colors, and broke their standard on-boarding rules to hire a singular talent. Apple only took 6 months to develop the iPod. Microsoft turned on a dime to start the move from an operating system company to a technology and Internet-leading juggernaut. Boeing has a Chairman’s Innovation Initiative available to all employees, and a “Phantom Works” R&D unit that is pushing them beyond their core businesses. Without the right environment and brand positioning, you can’t recruit top talent or position them to launch the next game-changing idea. You have the power to influence and educate your organization on what it will take to do this.
